Indications for Computer-Assisted Surgery in Otorhinolaryngology [PDF]

open access: yesComputer Aided Surgery, 1998
Indications for the use of computer-assisted surgery (CAS) in otorhinolaryngology can be grouped into several domains including the following: difficult cases involving the anterior, middle, and posterior skull base, especially the rhinobasis or laterobasis, and diseases of the petrous bone, the infratemporal fossa, the retromaxillar space, and the ...

Bridging the gap: Multi‐stakeholder perspectives of molecular diagnostics in oncology

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Although molecular diagnostics is transforming cancer care, implementing novel technologies remains challenging. This study identifies unmet needs and technology requirements through a two‐step stakeholder involvement. Liquid biopsies for monitoring applications and predictive biomarker testing emerge as key unmet needs. Technology requirements vary by

Image stitching for real-time laparoscopic hyperspectral imaging

open access: yesScientific Reports
Hyperspectral imaging (HSI) shows significant promise in the medical field for tissue detection and perfusion assessment. To extend its application to intraoperative diagnosis, laparoscopic cameras combining a high resolution color video and simultaneous

Guiding the surgical gesture using an electro-tactile stimulus array on the tongue: A feasibility study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Under conventional "open-" surgery, the physician has to take care of the patient, interact with other clinicians and check several monitoring devices. Nowadays, the Computer Assisted Surgery proposes to integrate 3D cameras in the operating theatre in ...

The neural crest‐associated gene ERRFI1 is involved in melanoma progression and resistance toward targeted therapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
ERRFI1, a neural crest (NC)‐associated gene, was upregulated in melanoma and negatively correlated with the expression of melanocytic differentiation markers and the susceptibility of melanoma cells toward BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi). Knocking down ERRFI1 significantly increased the sensitivity of melanoma cells to BRAFi.

Improving PARP inhibitor efficacy in bladder cancer without genetic BRCAness by combination with PLX51107

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Clinical trials on PARP inhibitors in urothelial carcinoma (UC) showed limited efficacy and a lack of predictive biomarkers. We propose SLFN5, SLFN11, and OAS1 as UC‐specific response predictors. We suggest Talazoparib as the better PARP inhibitor for UC than Olaparib.

Comparison of Surface Area across the Allograft-Host Junction Site Using Conventional and Navigated Osteotomy Technique. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Bulk allograft reconstruction plays an important role in limb-salvage surgery; however, non-union has been reported in up to 27% of cases. The purpose of this study is to quantify average surface contact areas across simulated intraoperative osteotomies ...

Effect of chemotherapy on passenger mutations in metastatic colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Changes in passenger mutation load and predicted immunotherapy response after chemotherapy treatment. Tumor cells rich with passenger mutations have increased sensitivity to chemotherapy. Correlation of passenger mutations with neoantigen load suggests highly mutated clones promote a more effective response to immunotherapy, and therefore, first‐line ...
