Computer-Assisted Orthopedic and Trauma Surgery

open access: yesDeutsches Ärzteblatt international, 2020
There are many ways in which computer-assisted orthopedic and trauma surgery (CAOS) procedures can help surgeons to plan and execute an intervention. This study is based on data derived from a selective search of the literature in the PubMed database, supported by a Google Scholar search. For most applications the evidence is weak.

Blood‐based proteomic profiling reveals context‐dependent changes in BCL2‐associated signaling during taxane therapy in breast cancer patients

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Chemotherapy side effects significantly impact cancer survivors' quality of life. Using protein levels in blood samples from breast cancer patients before and after 12 weeks of taxane treatment, we detected treatment‐dependent changes in calcium signaling and aging pathways associated with cancer recurrence.

Identifying gene expression signatures for risk stratification of postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy in colorectal cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A novel signature integrating genome‐wide analysis with clinical factors predicts recurrence in stage II colorectal cancer and enables a new risk stratification to guide postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy. Clinical risk stratification for postoperative recurrence in patients with pathological stage II (pStage II) colorectal cancer (CRC) is essential ...

Detection of flap malperfusion after microsurgical tissue reconstruction using hyperspectral imaging and machine learning

open access: yesScientific Reports
Hyperspectral imaging (HSI) has shown significant diagnostic potential for both intra- and postoperative perfusion assessment. The purpose of this study was to combine machine learning and neural networks with HSI to develop a method for detecting flap ...

Effects of IGFBP4 deficiency on human preadipocyte proliferation and differentiation through the IGF1R/AKT pathway

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
IGFBP4 knockdown (KD) impairs preadipocyte proliferation and is associated with IGF1R protein downregulation and attenuated AKT phosphorylation. The mechanisms by which IGFBP4 KD influences the IGF1R/AKT signaling pathway involve newly synthesized proteins and lysosomal degradation pathways. Created in BioRender.

A new ISO-based quality concept for evaluating accuracy in CAOS surgery

open access: yes, 2013
Since 1990s, the complexity and frequency of orthopaedic interventions involving bone cutting and assembly have led to extensive development of computer assistance technologies to improve clinical outcomes through increased accuracy and reproducibility ...

Techniques for Computer Assisted Surgery

open access: yes, 2007
In the recent decades robotic and computer science have been gaining more and more relevance in all aspects of our lives. In surgery, for example, they gave birth to procedures that would be impossible to perform otherwise (e.g. tele-surgery, nano-surgery).

Re‐Awakening Public Attention to the Silent Pandemic of Cancer Among Older Adults in Low‐ and Middle‐Income Countries

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT As global populations age, cancer is increasingly becoming a leading cause of morbidity and mortality among older adults, particularly in low‐ and middle‐income countries (LMICs). Despite accounting for the majority of new cancer cases and deaths, older individuals remain underrepresented in cancer research, clinical guidelines, and health ...
