Vaginal mesh vs native tissue repairs for prolapse: FDA update and recent evidence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In 2010, 300,000 surgeries were performed in the U.S. for pelvic organ prolapse (POP), and 100,000 of those involved the placement of surgical mesh.

Surgical Mesh as a Scaffold for Tissue Regeneration in the Esophagus [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Surgical Research, 2004
Background: Textiles in the form of surgical meshes are widely used in hernia surgery. Their porous structure allows tissue infiltration to incorporate the fabric for complete healing and device stabilization. This study was aimed to reconstitute the esophageal wall and to investigate the functional and histological consequences of a

Laparoscopic ventral mesh rectopexy vs. transperineal mesh repair for obstructed defecation syndrome associated with rectocele: comparison of selectively distributed patients

open access: yesBMC Surgery, 2023
Purpose Obstructed defecation syndrome represents 50–60% of patients with symptoms of constipation. We aimed to compare the two frequently performed surgical methods, laparoscopic ventral mesh rectopexy and transperineal mesh repair, for this condition ...

Evaluation of the effectiveness using nanomodified polipropilene meshes at laparoscopic operations of a hernia of a stomach

open access: yesJournal of Education, Health and Sport, 2020
In laparoscopic surgical treatment of incisional abdominal hernia (AH) of great sizes, using polypropylene mesh, buth this is accompanied by a fairly high freguency of postoperative complications from the postoperative wound. In our view, the use of a ...

FlowMesher: An automatic unstructured mesh generation algorithm with applications from finite element analysis to medical simulations [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
In this work, we propose an automatic mesh generation algorithm, FlowMesher, which can be used to generate unstructured meshes for mesh domains in any shape with minimum (or even no) user intervention. The approach can generate high-quality simplex meshes directly from scanned images in OBJ format in 2D and 3D or just from a line drawing in 2-D.

Landmarks in vaginal mesh development: polypropylene mesh for treatment of SUI and POP [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Vaginal meshes used in the treatment of stress urinary incontinence (SUI) and pelvic organ prolapse (POP) have produced highly variable outcomes, causing life-changing complications in some patients while providing others with effective, minimally ...

A semi-automatic computer-aided method for surgical template design [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports 6, Article number: 20280, 2016, 2016
This paper presents a generalized integrated framework of semi-automatic surgical template design. Several algorithms were implemented including the mesh segmentation, offset surface generation, collision detection, ruled surface generation, etc., and a special software named TemDesigner was developed.

Mesh Repair of Rectus Diastasis for Abdominoplasty is Safer than Suture Plication

open access: yesPlastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Global Open, 2021
Background:. Concerns regarding infection, extrusion, and pain have traditionally precluded the use of mesh to treat severe rectus diastasis during abdominoplasty in the United States.

A comparative study of postoperative complications of lightweight mesh and conventional prolene mesh in Lichtenstein hernia repair [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Background: Inguinal hernia repair is the most frequently performed operation in any general surgical unit. The complications of using the mesh has been the rationale to examine the role of mesh in hernia repair in detail and to begin investigating the ...
