Detection of circulating tumor DNA in colorectal cancer patients using a methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed a cost‐effective methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex assay containing tissue‐conserved and tumor‐specific methylation markers. The assay can detect circulating tumor DNA with high accuracy in patients with localized and metastatic colorectal cancer.

Clinical guidelines as plans: An ontological theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Clinical guidelines are special types of plans realized by collective agents. We provide an ontological theory of such plans that is designed to support the construction of a framework in which guideline-based information systems can be employed in the ...

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

Augmented reality in computer-assisted interventions based on patient-specific 3D printed reference

open access: yesHealthcare Technology Letters, 2018
Augmented reality (AR) can be an interesting technology for clinical scenarios as an alternative to conventional surgical navigation. However, the registration between augmented data and real-world spaces is a limiting factor.

Rapid detection of copy number variations and point mutations in BRCA1/2 genes using a single workflow by ion semiconductor sequencing pipeline [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Molecular analysis of BRCA1 (MIM# 604370) and BRCA2 (MIM #600185) genes is essential for familial breast and ovarian cancer prevention and treatment.

Workflow disruptions and surgical performance: past, present and future [PDF]

open access: yesBMJ Quality & Safety, 2019
The earliest contributions of human factors engineering to surgery probably occurred just over a century ago. Already well-known for their pioneering scientific approaches to management, Frank and Lillian Gilbreth turned their expertise in time and motion studies and the psychology of management to optimising the operating room environment (and various

Next‐generation proteomics improves lung cancer risk prediction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This is one of very few studies that used prediagnostic blood samples from participants of two large population‐based cohorts. We identified, evaluated, and validated an innovative protein marker model that outperformed an established risk prediction model and criteria employed by low‐dose computed tomography in lung cancer screening trials.

Towards Graph Representation Learning Based Surgical Workflow Anticipation

open access: yes2022 IEEE-EMBS International Conference on Biomedical and Health Informatics (BHI), 2022
Surgical workflow anticipation can give predictions on what steps to conduct or what instruments to use next, which is an essential part of the computer-assisted intervention system for surgery, e.g. workflow reasoning in robotic surgery. However, current approaches are limited to their insufficient expressive power for relationships between ...
