Mechanistic Learning for Predicting Survival Outcomes in Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma

open access: yesCPT: Pharmacometrics & Systems Pharmacology
We employed a mechanistic learning approach, integrating on‐treatment tumor kinetics (TK) modeling with various machine learning (ML) models to address the challenge of predicting post‐progression survival (PPS)—the duration from the time of documented ...

Using machine learning methods to investigate the impact of comorbidities and clinical indicators on the mortality rate of COVID-19

open access: yesFrontiers in Medical Technology
BackgroundThis study aims to develop a machine learning model to predict the 30-day mortality risk of hospitalized COVID-19 patients while leveraging federated learning to enhance data privacy and expand the model's applicability.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Survival analysis and factors influencing survival time of adult HIV/AIDS patients receiving antiretroviral therapy from 2012 to 2022 in Chongqing, China: a retrospective cohort study

open access: yesFrontiers in Public Health
BackgroundDespite expanded antiretroviral therapy (ART) coverage in China, AIDS remains a major public health challenge. This study aimed to assess survival outcomes and identify factors influencing survival time among HIV/AIDS patients receiving ART ...

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

The neural crest‐associated gene ERRFI1 is involved in melanoma progression and resistance toward targeted therapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
ERRFI1, a neural crest (NC)‐associated gene, was upregulated in melanoma and negatively correlated with the expression of melanocytic differentiation markers and the susceptibility of melanoma cells toward BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi). Knocking down ERRFI1 significantly increased the sensitivity of melanoma cells to BRAFi.

Clinical and Paraclinical Predictors of Survival in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis: Results from a Three-Year Longitudinal Cohort Study

open access: yesMedical Sciences
Background: Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a heterogeneous neurodegenerative disorder with highly variable progression and survival. Identifying early prognostic indicators is essential for patient stratification and management.

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

A Mixture Model for Survival Data with Both Latent and Non-Latent Cure Fractions

open access: yesStats
One of the most popular cure rate models in the literature is the Berkson and Gage mixture model. A characteristic of this model is that it considers the cure to be a latent event.
