Collaborative assessment and the assessment of collaboration

open access: yes, 2012
Anecdotal evidence suggests that while learning through group work and evaluation through group assessment are common in primary schools, this trend tapers in secondary, and virtually disappears in the latter years of secondary school and through into ...

Treatment with KCL‐286, a first‐in‐class retinoic acid receptor‐β (RARβ) agonist, ameliorates neuronal DNA damage and inflammation in a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Repair of neuronal DNA damage in Alzheimer's disease by KCL‐286. (A) Amyloid‐β oligomers and plaques impair neuronal DNA repair pathways, leading to DNA double‐strand breaks and glial activation. (B) KCL‐286 activates RARβ/RXR signalling via retinoic acid response elements (RAREs), associated with increased BRCA1 expression, enhanced DNA repair and ...

Protocol for quantifying miRNA trafficking across the endosomal membrane

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An in vitro protocol measures miRNA uptake into endosomes isolated from mammalian cell extracts, which are free of subcellular contaminants. Performed at 37 °C in the presence of ATP, it ensures the import of single‐stranded miRNA into the endosomal lumen.

Susceptibility evaluation of valley debris flow based on dual-channel network with fusion attention mechanism

open access: yesZhongguo dizhi zaihai yu fangzhi xuebao
In addressing the issue of debris flow disaster assessment, this paper proposes a novel lightweight convolutional neural network model, the Dual-Channel Fusion Attention Mechanism Network (DCFAMNet), designed to rapidly identifying the susceptibility of ...

Avidin is evolutionarily conserved in fish but dispensable for development and resistance against Streptococcus agalactiae in zebrafish

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The presence of biotin‐binding avidin proteins in fish and their biological significance are poorly characterized. We cataloged fish avidins and demonstrate that they are widely present and evolutionarily conserved. We created avd knockout zebrafish and show that zebavidin is dispensable for development and that resistance of avd knockout embryos in ...

e-Assessment: past, present and future

open access: yes, 2014
The goal of this paper is to provide an overview of the evolution of electronic assessment, or e-assessment, within the context of a developing e-pedagogy by investigating the changes occurring over time in the ways e-pedagogy is described.

The Influence of Non-Landslide Sample Selection Methods on Landslide Susceptibility Prediction

open access: yesLand
Non-landslide sample selection is critical in landslide susceptibility modeling due to its direct impact on model accuracy and reliability. This study compares three sample selection strategies: whole-region random selection, landslide buffer zone ...

GelMA‐based 3D spheroids recapitulate transcriptomic and functional hallmarks of myeloid sarcoma

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
GelMA 5% hydrogels support the formation of myeloid leukemia spheroids that recapitulate MS‐specific features, including G1 arrest, apoptosis, and ECM‐driven transcriptomic reprogramming. The 3D model mimicked soft‐tissue‐like stiffness and oxygen conditions, and transcriptomic convergence with primary MS samples confirmed its utility as a preclinical ...

The C‐terminal domain of yeast Arginyltransferase1 is essential for its catalytic activity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Arginyltransferase 1 (Ate1), a eukaryotic enzyme, catalyses arginylation, transferring arginine from tRNA‐Arg to the amino terminus of the target protein. Overexpression of Ate1 in yeast is lethal and is dependent on arginylation. This study elucidates how mutations in the cofactor‐binding and active site of Ate1 and truncation of its structural ...
