Genetic dissection of human ABCE1 in yeast reveals separable requirements for ribosome recycling and suppression of aberrant reinitiation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Human ABCE1 cannot functionally replace its yeast ortholog. Yeast–human chimera analysis identified NBD1 as a major interspecies barrier. Genetic screening yielded hABCE1 revertants that rescue yeast viability but fail to suppress aberrant translation reinitiation in the 3′ UTR.

Leveraging Principal Component Analysis for Data-Driven and Objective Weight Assignment in Spatial Decision-Making Framework for Qanat-Induced Subsidence Susceptibility Assessment in Railway Networks

open access: yesISPRS International Journal of Geo-Information
Railway networks are highly susceptible to land subsidence, which can undermine their functional stability and safety, resulting in recurring failures and vulnerabilities. This paper aims to evaluate the susceptibility of the railway network due to Qanat

Type I interferons modulate autophagy to shape gemcitabine response in pancreatic cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Type I interferons differentially modulate autophagy and the response of pancreatic cancer cells to gemcitabine. IFNα2b stimulates autophagic flux and protects cells from gemcitabine‐induced cell death, contributing to chemoresistance. In contrast, IFNβ1a inhibits autophagosome formation and enhances gemcitabine‐induced cell death, resulting in ...

Improving Landslide Susceptibility Assessment Through Non-Landslide Sampling Strategies

open access: yesLand
Landslides are a prevalent geological hazard in China, posing significant threats to life and property. Landslide susceptibility assessment is essential for disaster prevention, and the quality of non-landslide samples critically affects model accuracy ...

Chronobiology of Cancer: How Aging Fuels Oncogenesis at the Molecular Level

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
This graphical abstract illustrates the key biological pathways linking aging with cancer development and progression. In the upper left, cumulative exposure to ultraviolet radiation, toxins, and reactive oxygen species (ROS) causes DNA damage and genomic instability, whereas age‐related decline in repair mechanisms, such as ATM/ATR, BER, and NER ...

Peer assessment assisted by technology

open access: yes, 2012
A common theme from the National Student Survey is that students want more feedback, but increasing the amount of teacher-student feedback is not practicable. Peer assessment, if carefully supported, can be a cost-effective solution.

Glacier and glacier hazard characterization based on remote sensing interpretation: a case study in Qinghai Province, China

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science
Against the backdrop of global climate warming, glaciers across the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau are undergoing widespread retreat, glacial lakes are expanding rapidly, and disasters such as ice avalanches and glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs) are occurring ...

Elevated Connectivity During Language Processing Is Associated With Cognitive Performance in SeLECTS

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Self‐Limited Epilepsy with Centrotemporal Spikes (SeLECTS) is associated with language impairments despite seizures originating in the motor cortex, suggesting aberrant cross‐network interactions. Here we tested whether functional connectivity in SeLECTS during language tasks predicts language performance.
