Damage detection in suspension bridges using vibration characteristics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
This research developed a method to detect damage in suspension bridges using vibration characteristics. These bridges exhibit complex vibration and hence it is difficult to use traditional vibration based methods to detect damage in them.

A Lightweight Procedural Layer for Hybrid Experimental–Computational Workflows in Materials Science

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We unveil a prototype hybrid‐workflow framework that fuses automatedcomputation with hands‐on experiments. Built atop pyiron, a lightweight, parameterized layer translates procedure descriptions into executable manual steps, syncing instrument settings, human interventions, and data capture in real‐time today.

Decreasing displacements of prestressed suspension bridge

open access: yesJournal of Civil Engineering and Management, 2012
A suspension bridge is the most suitable type for a long-span bridge due to rational use of structural materials. Increased deformability, which is conditioned by the appearance of the elastic and kinematic displacements, is the major disadvantage of ...

Dynamic Analysis of Train–Bridge Coupling System for a Long-Span Railway Suspension Bridge Subjected to Strike–Slip Fault

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
Long-span railway bridges crossing active faults are more vulnerable owing to the joint combination of pulse ground motions and surface dislocation. To study the dynamic effects resulting from the coupling of long-span railway suspension bridges crossing

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

Microstructure Reconstruction in Battery Electrodes Using Machine Learning Based on Low‐Voltage Focused Ion Beam–Scanning Electron Microscopy Tomography Images

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐voltage FIB‐SEM tomography combined with a image preprocessing pipeline improves phase contrast and enables reliable machine‐learning segmentation of conductive networks in lithium‐ion battery electrodes. Structural descriptors are extracted from segmented images, done semimanually and automated, and compared.

Research on Influencing Factors of Cable Clamp Bolt Elastic Interaction in Cross-Ocean Suspension Bridges

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
Suspension bridges are the most common type of bridge used to cross the ocean. The cable clamps in suspension bridges clamp the main cables by bolt preload, but the elastic interaction of the bolts reduces the preload, which is detrimental to the force ...

Mathematical models of suspension bridges [PDF]

open access: yesApplications of Mathematics, 1997
Damped and non-damped oscillations of suspension bridges is considered. The behaviour of suspension bridges is simplified assuming either (i) the standard Bernoulli theory of beams combined with a unilateral response of cable stays or (ii) a coupling of the system beam-string.

Dynamic interaction of long suspension bridges with running trains

open access: yes, 2000
This paper presents an investigation of dynamic interaction of long suspension bridges with running trains. A three-dimensional finite element model is used to represent a long suspension bridge. Each 4-axle vehicle in a train is modelled by a 27-degrees-
