Stretching the Printability Metric in Direct‐Ink Writing with Highly Extensible Yield‐Stress Fluids

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces “drawability” as a new metric for assessing printability in direct‐ink writing, focusing on gap‐spanning performance and speed robustness. By designing yield‐stress fluids with high extensibility, we demonstrate that extensional strain‐to‐break significantly enhances printability.

Vehicle load loading method for the fatigue analysis of long-span suspension bridges with straddling slings

open access: yesFrontiers in Mechanical Engineering
In this study, the bridge structure is subjected to fatigue analysis. While the vehicle load application method for medium- and small-span bridges is relatively well-established, methods for fatigue analysis of large-span bridges under vehicle loads are ...

A Mathematical Model of Suspension Bridges [PDF]

open access: yesApplications of Mathematics, 2004
The author considers a one-dimensional nonlinear string-beam system describing the vertical oscillations of a suspension bridge which is coupled with the main cable by the stays. The main cable is modelled as a vibrating string and the roadbed of the bridge is represented by a bending beam with simply supported ends.

Wearable Smart Patches on Sustainable Chitosan With Reversible Microbial Growth‐Inhibitory Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Chitosan, a polysaccharide upcycled from biowaste, has long promised sustainable, biocompatible, and antimicrobial films and devices, an appeal reinforced by its recent regulatory recognition, with several chitosan‐based antibacterial dressings gaining clearance through the Food and Drug Administration's 510(k) pathway.

Performance of a Suspension Bridge with Active Vibration Dampers

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2018
Suspended structures that are used extensively in construction of motorway and pedestrian bridges allow bridging wide spans without having to install intermediate supports.

Structure‐Guided Dynamical Mechanics in Bioinspired Double Twisted Laminated Thin Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work explores a dynamic mechanistic study of crack propagation and puncture testing via real‐time monitoring of crack initiation, propagation, and termination through nature‐inspired single and double twisted architectures fabricated from cellulose nanocrystals.

Relation between shape and the phenomenon of flutter for bridge deck-like bluff bodies

open access: yesArchives of Mechanics, 2011
The paper deals with experimental analysis of the influence of cross–section shape of a body on the phenomenon of flutter. The aeroelastic section model that was the object of study in a laboratory corresponded to a central section of a long bridge deck.

Functionalizing Micro‐to‐Mesoscopic Electrode Architectures for Regulating Electron Transfer Behaviors in Electrocatalysis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A systematic review is conducted to assess the influence of electrode architecture across micro‐ to mesoscopic length scales on electron‐transfer pathways in electrocatalysis. We discuss the structure‐activity relationships in electrocatalytic applications, including resource recovery and environmental remediation, and provide cost‐effective, efficient

Finite Element Modelling for Static Behaviour Analysis of Suspension Bridges With Varying Rigidity of Main Cables

open access: yesThe Baltic Journal of Road and Bridge Engineering, 2008
The paper presents a summary of numerical analysis on static behaviour of suspension bridges with varying rigidity of cables. The primary purpose of this study was to compare suspension systems with flexible and rigid cables and to determine the ...

Modal flexibility method for structural damage detection in suspension bridges [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Suspension bridges meet the steadily growing demand for lighter and longer bridges in today’s infrastructure systems. These bridges are designed to have long life spans, but with age, their main cables and hangers could suffer from corrosion and fatigue.
