On the parameterization of the drag coefficient in mixed seas

open access: yesScientia Marina, 2012
An analysis of the performance of parameterizations for the drag coefficient CD over the ocean is presented. The results were obtained by considering detailed observations from the recent IntOA experiment in which a co-existence of wind sea and swell ...

Modeling and Simulation of GNSS-R Observables With Effects of Swell

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing, 2020
Global navigation satellite system-reflectometry (GNSS-R) has attracted much attention in remote sensing, such as sea wind speed detection, soil moisture, and sea ice.

Observing Sea States

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2019
Sea state information is needed for many applications, ranging from safety at sea and on the coast, for which real time data are essential, to planning and design needs for infrastructure that require long time series.

Projections of Directional Spectra Help to Unravel the Future Behavior of Wind Waves

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2021
Based on a novel approach, present-day and future spectral wind-wave conditions in a high-emission scenario from a seven-member wave climate projection ensemble are compared.

Use of the Dynamic Cone Penetrometer in Compacted Clay–Sand Layers

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2022
The ASTM D6951 suggests a test method using the dynamic cone penetrometer (DCP) for the assessment of shallow pavement strength. This study is dedicated to evaluating a similar test method to be used for fine-grained clay–sand mixtures, which are ...

A multifunctional dynamic voltage restorer for power quality improvement [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Power quality is a major concern in electrical power systems. The power quality disturbances such as sags, swells, harmonic distortion and other interruptions have an impact on the electrical devices and machines and in severe cases can cause serious ...

Depth Inversion Using SAR and Super-Resolution Enhancement: A Case Study on Case II Waters

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing
Depth inversion is crucial for ocean exploration, with synthetic aperture radar (SAR) technology being a key tool due to its all-weather capabilities. However, SAR-based depth inversion typically has limited resolution, ranging from hundreds to thousands

Numerical Study on Spatio-Temporal Distribution of Cold Front-Induced Waves along the Southeastern Coast of China

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2021
Cold fronts, as one of the most frequent extreme weather events, can induce significant waves on the sea. This work analyzes the spatial and temporal variations in cold front events, especially the characteristics of wind directions during cold fronts in

VLTI/PIONIER images the Achernar disk swell

open access: yes, 2017
Context. The mechanism of disk formation around fast-rotating Be stars is not well understood. In particular, it is not clear which mechanisms operate, in addition to fast rotation, to produce the observed variable ejection of matter.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).
