Charge and excitation of swift heavy ions in solids
Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section B: Beam Interactions with Materials and Atoms, 1988Abstract We discuss the evolution of charge- and excitation stages of energetic heavy ions passing through solid targets. The relevance of cross-sections from single ion-atom collisions is examined by comparing calculated and observed foil-induced charge state fractions and X-ray intensities. New evidence is presented for state mixing associated with

Tracks induced by swift heavy ions in semiconductors
Physical Review B, 2002InSb, GaSb, InP, InAs, and GaAs single crystals were irradiated with Pb ions in the range of 385--2170 MeV. The samples were studied by transmission and high-resolution electron microscopy and Rutherford backscattering in channeling geometry. The energetic ions induced isolated tracks in all crystals but GaAs.

Swift-heavy-ion irradiation on Al62Cu25.5Fe12.5 quasicrystals
Journal of Non-Crystalline Solids, 2004Abstract The effect of swift-heavy-ion irradiation on a very stable and well-studied Al 62 Cu 25.5 Fe 12.5 icosahedral quasicrystalline system is discussed here. The experiments are performed in the pure electronic excitation regime, where various ranges of energy (1.2 to ∼2.5 keV/A) are systematically deposited in to the system, causing electronic ...

Swift heavy ion irradiation of graphene: effects of the ion charge states
2019Material modifications using swift heavy ions usually take into account only electronic stopping power of the ion and its velocity. However, as discussed previously [1], for near surface experiments, ion charge state can also play an important role because ions delivered from accelerators can have lower (or even higher) charge state than equilibrium ...

Swift heavy ion effects in gallium nitride
2008GaN layers were irradiated at room temperature with swift heavy ions. AFM (atomic force microscopy) images of specimens irradiated under grazing incidence show tracks. With 74 MeV Kr, the contrast is very faint unlike for 92 MeV Xe and 104 MeV Pb. This behavior indicates that the electronic energy loss threshold to produce tracks at grazing incidence ...
