Swift Heavy Ion Irradiation on Quasicrystals
MRS Proceedings, 2003ABSTRACTThe present level of understanding of the effects of irradiation of quasicrystalline targets with swift heavy ions has been reviewed here. The results of systematic deposition of large amount of energy densities (12 keV/nm < (dE/dx)e < 40 keV/nm) in Al-Cu-Fe based system are discussed in terms of resistivity measurements (in-situ ...

Effect of swift heavy ion irradiation in pyrochlores
Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section B: Beam Interactions with Materials and Atoms, 2008A summary of the results on the radiation stability of pyrochlores (Gd2Zr2O7, Nd2Zr2O7, Gd2Ti2O7) in the electronic stopping regime is given. X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy show a transformation from the ordered pyrochlores (Fd3m) to the anion deficient fluorite (Fm3m) structure in Gd2Zr2O7 or amorphization in Nd2Zr2O7.

Amorphization of nanocrystalline monoclinic ZrO2 by swift heavy ion irradiation
Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics, 2012Bulk ZrO(2) polymorphs generally have an extremely high amorphization tolerance upon low energy ion and swift heavy ion irradiation in which ballistic interaction and ionization radiation dominate the ion-solid interaction, respectively. However, under very high-energy irradiation by 1.33 GeV U-238, nanocrystalline (40-50 nm) monoclinic ZrO(2) can be ...

Swift heavy ion irradiation of SrTiO
2008The irradiation of SrTiO3 single crystals with swift heavy ions leads to modifications of the surface. The details of the morphology of these modifications depend strongly on the angle of incidence and can be characterized by atomic force microscopy. At glancing angles, discontinuous chains of nanosized hillocks appear on the surface.

Swift Heavy Ion Irradiation of Amorphous Semiconductors
2016In this chapter, the interaction of swift heavy ions (SHIs) with amorphous semiconductors is reviewed. While crystalline Si and Ge are insensitive to SHI irradiation, the higher electron-phonon coupling efficiency of their amorphous counterparts can result in ion track formation due to transient melting along the ion path.

Defect accumulation in ThO2 irradiated with swift heavy ions
Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section B: Beam Interactions with Materials and Atoms, 2014Polycrystalline ThO2 was irradiated with 2.2 GeV Au ions and characterized by synchrotron X-ray diffraction, X-ray absorption spectroscopy, and Raman spectroscopy. The diffraction measurements indicated an increase in the unit cell parameter and the accumulation of heterogeneous microstrain with increasing ion fluence, both of which are consistent with

Swift Heavy Ion Irradiation of Crystalline Semiconductors
2016In this chapter the structural modification of crystalline semiconductors due to swift heavy ion (SHI) irradiation induced high electronic excitation is discussed. After a short description of the energy deposition processes, experimental results on ion track and damage formation in various semiconductors are presented.

Effect of swift heavy ion irradiation on quasicrystalline materials
Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section B: Beam Interactions with Materials and Atoms, 1999Abstract The effect of swift heavy ion irradiation (SHII) on quasicrystalline Al 65 Cu 20 Fe 15 is reported for the first time. This particular quasicrystal is chosen for this study, so that the effect of electronic excitations on the intrinsic electronic properties of quasicrystals can be studied.

Swift heavy ion irradiation of muscovite and biotite substrates
Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section B: Beam Interactions with Materials and Atoms, 2015Abstract We report magnetic and spectroscopic studies of naturally occurring layered phyllosilicates; muscovite and biotite of Sikkim Himalaya. The minerals are characterised by SEM–EDS, powder X-ray diffraction (pXRD), electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and magnetometry. EPR spectra of muscovite and its axial dependence show the presence of Mn 2+
