Structural characterization of swift heavy ion irradiated polycarbonate

Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section B: Beam Interactions with Materials and Atoms, 2007
Abstract Makrofol-N polycarbonate thin films were irradiated with copper (50 MeV) and nickel (86 MeV) ions. The modified films were analyzed by UV–VIS, FTIR and XRD techniques. The experimental data was used to evaluate the formation of chromophore groups (conjugated system of bonds), degradation cross-section of the special functional groups, the ...

Degradation of polyimide under irradiation with swift heavy ions

Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section B: Beam Interactions with Materials and Atoms, 2005
Stacks of polyimide foils were irradiated with different swift heavy ions (Ti, Mo, Au) of 11.1 MeV/nucleon energy and fluences between 1 × 1010 and 2 × 1012 ions/cm2. Beam-induced degradation of the imide group was analyzed by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy studying the absorption band at 725 cm−1 as a function of dose.

Effect of swift heavy ion irradiation in FePt system

Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section B: Beam Interactions with Materials and Atoms, 2006
Abstract The present study reports the effects of swift heavy ion irradiation in FePt system in different forms viz., uniform alloy film, multilayer, and nano-particles in non-magnetic medium. The FePt alloy film, Fe/Pt multilayer and FePt nano-particles in silver matrix with partial L1 0 ordering, are prepared by ion beam sputtering method and ...

Irradiation effect of swift heavy ions on C60 films

Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section B: Beam Interactions with Materials and Atoms, 2002
Abstract In this paper we present experimental results on irradiation effects of C 60 films induced by 2.0 GeV Xe 136 ions, delivered by HIRFL at Lanzhou of China. The irradiated C 60 films were analyzed by means of Fourier transform infrared, Raman scattering and X-ray diffraction spectroscopies.

Swift heavy ion irradiation induced modifications in sapphire

Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section B: Beam Interactions with Materials and Atoms, 2003
Abstract Swift heavy ion irradiation is carried out on sapphire (α-Al2O3) for controlled modification of its optical properties. Single crystals of α-Al2O3 (0 0 0 1) were irradiated at room temperature with 190 MeV Ag ions having Se∼23 keV/nm with fluences varying from 1011 to 1013 ions/cm2.

Sequential swift heavy ion irradiation of gallium nitride [PDF]

open access: possible, 2019
Damage introduced by swift heavy ions into radiation hard materials is a concept of large interest which still remains only partially understood. The basic principle by which defects are produced consists of the formation of ion tracks on the surface or in the bulk of the material.

Uniform behavior of insulators irradiated by swift heavy ions

Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section B: Beam Interactions with Materials and Atoms, 2015
Abstract Ion induced R e track radii are derived from a universal relation Θ( r ) without involving any materials parameter apart from the melting point T m . The effect is related to the formation of identical ion-induced temperature distributions in track forming insulators for 〈 s e 〉 = S e / N  = constant, where S

Swift heavy ion irradiation of graphene: effects of the ion charge states

2019
Material modifications using swift heavy ions usually take into account only electronic stopping power of the ion and its velocity. However, as discussed previously [1], for near surface experiments, ion charge state can also play an important role because ions delivered from accelerators can have lower (or even higher) charge state than equilibrium ...
