Swim-up procedure selects spermatozoa with longer telomere length
Mutation Research - Fundamental and Molecular Mechanisms of Mutagenesis, 2010Telomere length and sperm DNA fragmentation were determined in sperm samples from 27 patients, using a quantitative PCR (Q-PCR) assay and the Sperm Chromatin Dispersion (SCD) test, respectively. Comparisons of the samples before and after swim-up processing demonstrated that this procedure selects a sperm population with longer average telomere size ...

Failure of multitube sperm swim-up for sex preselection
Fertility and Sterility, 1997To use double-label fluorescence in situ hybridization to evaluate a modified swim-up procedure that is purported to be effective for preconceptual sex selection.Controlled, blinded study.University hospital laboratories.Donor males reporting for routine semen analysis.Percentages of X- and Y-bearing spermatozoa in neat semen and in two swim-up ...

What are the effects of vitamin C on sperm functional properties during direct swim-up procedure?
Zygote (Cambridge. Print), 2019Summary Direct swim-up procedure is widely used to separate the motile competent spermatozoa from the antioxidant-rich semen. Subsequently, spermatozoa become more vulnerable to reactive oxygen species (ROS) due to their cytological characteristics.

A Controlled Study for Gender Selection Using Swim-Up Separation
Gynecologic and Obstetric Investigation, 1999<i>Objective:</i> To evaluate the success for gender selection using a sample of semen separated by a modified swim-up technique. <i>Design:</i> We retrospectively compared the gender outcome of two treatments (A and B) for either a male or female offspring with those who conceived spontaneously.

ULTRASTRUCTURAL AND DNA FRAGMENTATION ANALYSES IN SWIM-UP SELECTED HUMAN SPERM
Archives of Andrology, 2006Seventeen sperm samples were evaluated by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) before and after swim-up separation. DNA-fragmentation was tested by terminal d-UTP nick end labeling (TUNEL) in unselected and selected semen samples, and the results were analyzed in relation to sperm ultrastructural characteristics detected by TEM.

[Spermatic fertilization capacity after swim-up spermatozoa recovery technique].
Archivos espanoles de urologia, 2006To investigate sperm quality before and after swim up in infertile patients, and to compare it with a fertile men population.Semen samples from 55 patients consulting at the infertility services of the Hospitals "Centenario" in Rosario and "Eva Perón" in Gro Baigorria were collected and analyzed accordingly with the WHO guidelines.

Artificially selected human sperm morphology after swim-up processing
Canadian Journal of Zoology, 2012The swim-up technique is a clinical practice used to select highly motile sperm cells from patient ejaculates to use in assisted fertilization. The aim of this study was to investigate whether the length of different sperm-cell components is related to gamete function. Thus, we explored whether swim-up technique selects for longer sperm cells than mean

Sensitivity of Guadalupe Bass Swim-up Fry to Hyperoxia
North American Journal of Aquaculture, 2017Abstract Hatchery-reared fingerling Guadalupe Bass Micropterus treculii are stocked into central Texas rivers to restore threatened populations and combat hybridization with Smallmouth Bass M. dolomieu. Fry survival in hatchery rearing ponds has declined by more than 50% in recent years, and pilot investigations indicated that exposure ...

Increased recovery of swim-up spermatozoa by application of “antigravitational” centrifugation
Fertility and Sterility, 1999To compare the quantity and quality of sperm recovered following the 10-minute application of an antigravitational force during the swim-up procedure with the standard 60-minute swim-up (SSU) procedure.Prospectively controlled in vitro study.Private andrology laboratory and hospital-based infertility practice.Equal aliquots of semen were evaluated ...

Simultaneous swim-up/swim-down of sperm in assisted reproduction procedures
Journal of Assisted Reproduction and Genetics, 1993High-quality motile human spermatozoa were obtained following treatment of semen by simultaneous swim-up into medium and swim-down into an isotonic 40% Percoll solution. This procedure was significantly better than the swim-up method and comparable to discontinuous Percoll gradient centrifugation. Recovery rates of motile sperm were 35% for swim-up, 65%
