Dextran/Swim-Up Procedure for Ram Sperm Selection

The procedures for separating spermatozoa from seminal plasma are frequently applied in reproductive technologies. Most of these procedures include centrifugation steps, which have detrimental effects on ram spermatozoa. We developed a special dextran/swim-up technique without centrifugation which allows the recovery of highly motile and viable ram ...

The effect of high‐ and low‐intensity warm‐up on the physiological responses to a standardized swim and tethered swimming performance

Journal of Sports Sciences, 1993
This investigation was conducted to determine the effect of high- and low-intensity warm-ups on physiological responses, lactate accumulation, and high-intensity freestyle and tethered swimming performance. Ten male collegiate swimmers were tested for maximal oxygen uptake (VO2 max) followed by two series of three warm-up protocols performed in a ...

Muscular Activations During Repetitions of Sculling Movements up to Exhaustion in Swimming

Archives of Physiology and Biochemistry, 1997
The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of the repetition of sculling movements of the upper limb on muscular electrical activities during an exhaustive test in front crawl. Six upper limb muscles activities of nine swimmers were recorded, with telemetric EMG data acquisition system using active surface electrodes, during a 4 x 100 m ...

ULTRASTRUCTURAL AND DNA FRAGMENTATION ANALYSES IN SWIM-UP SELECTED HUMAN SPERM

Archives of Andrology, 2006
Seventeen sperm samples were evaluated by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) before and after swim-up separation. DNA-fragmentation was tested by terminal d-UTP nick end labeling (TUNEL) in unselected and selected semen samples, and the results were analyzed in relation to sperm ultrastructural characteristics detected by TEM.
