Viruses associated with pneumonia in adults. [PDF]
Viral pneumonia, which is typically associated with disease in childhood, is increasingly recognized as causing problems in adults. Certain viruses, such as influenza virus, can attack fully immunocompetent adults, but many viruses take advantage of more-

Cinnamic‐hydroxamic‐acid derivatives (CHADs) are identified as novel inhibitors of the bacterial nucleoid‐associated protein HU, exhibiting potent antibacterial, anti‐biofilm (both inhibition and eradication), and DNA relaxation (anti‐supercoiling) activities. Moreover, CHADs demonstrate strong synergistic effects with multiple antibiotics.

Early apoptosis of porcine alveolar macrophages limits avian influenza virus replication and proinflammatory dysregulation [PDF]
Pigs are evidently more resistant to avian than swine influenza A viruses, mediated in part through frontline epithelial cells and alveolar macrophages (AM).

Droplet Digital CRISPR for Nucleic Acid Detection
This review outlines recent advances in droplet digital CRISPR technology for nucleic acid detection, combining CRISPR specificity with droplet digital‐based absolute quantification. It summarizes core principles, amplification‐assisted and amplification‐free strategies, and representative DNA and RNA biomarker applications.

Reassortant Pandemic (H1N1) 2009 Virus in Pigs, United Kingdom
Surveillance for influenza virus in pigs in the United Kingdom during spring 2010 detected a novel reassortant influenza virus. This virus had genes encoding internal proteins from pandemic (H1N1) 2009 virus and hemagglutinin and neuraminidase genes from

After multiple discrete introductions of influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 virus into Sri Lanka, the virus was transmitted among humans, then swine. The spread of virus between geographically distant swine farms is consistent with virus dispersal associated with a ...

Alterations of membrane curvature during influenza virus budding [PDF]
Influenza A virus belongs to the Orthomyxoviridae family. It is an enveloped virus that contains a segmented and negative-sense RNA genome. Influenza A viruses cause annual epidemics and occasional major pandemics, are a major cause of morbidity and ...

Human Case of Swine Influenza A (H1N1) Triple Reassortant Virus Infection, Wisconsin
Zoonotic infections with swine influenza A viruses are reported sporadically. Triple reassortant swine influenza viruses have been isolated from pigs in the United States since 1998.
