Risk Factors and Prognostic Value of Swirl Sign in Traumatic Acute Epidural Hematoma

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology, 2020
Objective: Acute epidural hematoma (AEDH) is one of the deadliest lesions in patients after traumatic brain injury. AEDH with swirl sign progresses rapidly and requires timely surgical treatment.

Functional and Structural Evidence of Neurofluid Circuit Aberrations in Huntington Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Disrupted neurofluid regulation may contribute to neurodegeneration in Huntington disease (HD). Because neurofluid pathways influence waste clearance, inflammation, and the distribution of central nervous system (CNS)–delivered therapeutics, understanding their dysfunction is increasingly important as targeted treatments emerge.

The swirl turbine

open access: yesIOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science, 2012
In the article is introduced the new type of the turbine - swirl turbine. This turbine is based on opposite principle than Kaplan turbine. Euler equation is satisfied in the form gHηh = −u2vu2. From this equation is seen, that inflow of liquid into the runner is without rotation and on the outflow is a rotation of liquid opposite of rotation of runner.

The Influence of Swirl Brakes and a Tip Discharge Orifice on the Rotordynamic Forces Generated by Discharge-to-Suction Leakage Flows in Shrouded Centrifugal Pumps [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
This paper reports on experiments conducted in the Rotor Force Test Facility at the California Institute of Technology to examine the effects of a tip leakage restriction and swirl brakes on the rotordynamic forces due to leakage flows on an impeller ...

Small-scale swirl events in the quiet Sun chromosphere [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Recent progress in instrumentation enables solar observations with high resolution simultaneously in the spatial, temporal, and spectral domains. We use such high-resolution observations to study small-scale structures and dynamics in the chromosphere of

Structure–Function Decoupling of the Sensorimotor and Default Mode Networks in Black Americans With MS

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background and Objectives Multiple sclerosis (MS) exhibits racially disparate rates of disease progression. Black people with MS (B‐PwMS) experience a more severe disease course than non‐Hispanic White people with MS (NHW‐PwMS). Here we investigated structural and functional connectivity as well as structure–function decoupling in the ...

Normal‐Appearing White Matter Injury Mediates Chronic Deep Venous Hypoxia and Disease Progression in Multiple Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To explore how cerebral hypoxia and Normal‐Appearing White Matter (NAWM) integrity affect MS lesion burden and clinical course. Methods Seventy‐nine MS patients, including 13 clinically isolated syndrome (CIS) patients and 66 relapsing–remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) patients, and 44 healthy controls (HCs) were recruited from ...

Slow swirl phaco

open access: yesIndian Journal of Ophthalmology
This article reports a novel surgical technique in the management of soft posterior polar cataracts. This technique avoids hydro procedures, trenching, and chopping. Viscodissection is avoided or minimal, and polar opacity is removed last. These modifications minimize the risk of intraoperative complications.

Preliminary investigation of labyrinth packing pressure drops at onset of swirl-induced rotor instability [PDF]

open access: yes
Backward and forward subsynchronous instability was observed in a flexible model test rotor under the influence of swirl flow in a straight-through labyrinth packing.

Direct numerical simulation of the near-field dynamics of annular gas-liquid two-phase jets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Copyright © 2009 American Institute of Physics.Direct numerical simulation has been used to examine the near-field dynamics of annular gas-liquid two-phase jets. Based on an Eulerian approach with mixed fluid treatment, combined with an adapted volume of
