Biochimica et Biophysica Acta, 1960Abstract 1. 1. The preparation of chloroplasts and chloroplast fragments from swiss-chard, which were active in photophosphorylation is described. A chloroplast preparation stable for 24–48 h could be obtained. 2. 2. A sensitive assay for the ATP formed was adopted.

Light inactivation of photophosphorylation by swiss-chard chloroplasts

Photophosphorylation by swiss-chard chloroplasts was rapidly inactivated by preincubation of the reaction mixture in light. 50% inactivation was observed after 90 sec exposure to 160, 000 lux. 2. 2. The presence of phenazine methosulfate during the light preincubation period largely prevented the inactivation. 3. 3.

Journal of Plant Nutrition, 2005ABSTRACT The present work was aimed at determining the limits of tolerance to sodium chloride (NaCl) of a halophyte, Beta macrocarpa Guss (wild Swiss chard). Five week-old plants were cultivated with a nutritive solution to which was added 0, 100, 200, and 300 mM NaCl. Plants were harvested after four weeks of treatment.

Kinetics of Folacin Destruction in Swiss Chard During Storage
Journal of Food Science, 1985ABSTRACT The folacin activities in fresh Swiss chard leaves stored in open air at 4, 21, 35 and 40°C were determined by a microbiological assay using Lactobacillus casei. At 21°C the leaves were also stored in plastic bags and under moist conditions.
