Modeling of losses in switched reluctance machines

38th IAS Annual Meeting on Conference Record of the Industry Applications Conference, 2003., 2004
Switched reluctance motor (SRM) performance prediction requires the modeling of iron losses. The iron loss model in this paper separates the iron losses into two components, eddy-current and hysteresis losses, and models the losses as a function of the derivative of flux density. The model is suitable for the nonsinusoidal flux densities in the SRM and

Modeling and Determination of Switched Reluctance Machine Nonlinearity

2020 IEEE Conference on Control Technology and Applications (CCTA), 2020
Switched reluctance motor (SRM) is gaining more interest in the last decades due to its wide range of speed operation, thermal robustness, high performances and low manufacturing cost. For these reasons, it is investigated as an alternative generator for many applications like wind energy conversion, aircraft actuators and electric vehicles. The SRM is

A review on switched reluctance machines for electric vehicles

2016 IEEE 25th International Symposium on Industrial Electronics (ISIE), 2016
Nowadays, switched reluctance machines (SRM) are gaining interest in the scientific community due to the advantages they offer. The SRM offers an overall efficiency similar to an induction motor of the same rating, since the friction and windage losses are comparable. Many researches have been done on SRMs, their related systems and challenges.

Reluctance Mesh-Based Modeling of Switched Reluctance Machines

2021 IEEE Transportation Electrification Conference & Expo (ITEC), 2021
Design of switched reluctance machines requires repetitive finite element (FE) simulations with considerable computational time and burden. These simulations slow down the design process and require powerful computational resources. The magnetic equivalent circuit (MEC) technique resembles an alternative with a reasonable computational time and fair ...

Comparative analysis of conventional switched reluctance machines and mutually coupled switched reluctance machines

2017 IEEE Transportation Electrification Conference and Expo (ITEC), 2017
This paper presents a comparative analysis of conventional switched reluctance machines (SRMs) and mutually coupled switched reluctance machines (MCSRMs) in terms of inductance profiles, torque profiles, the average torque, and the maximum torque. Four 3-phase, 12/8 SRMs including the conventional SRM, the short-pitched MCSRM, the fractionally-pitched ...

Bipolar switched reluctance machines

IEEE Power Engineering Society General Meeting, 2004., 2004
This work presents the results of an investigation on components of the electromagnetic force in the air gap of an 8/6 switched reluctance machine (SRM). Using Maxwell stress method variations of radial and tangential force components with respect to saliency of the machine and saturation effects have been studied.

Multidimensional performance optimization of switched reluctance machines

2011 XXIII International Symposium on Information, Communication and Automation Technologies, 2011
This paper presents a procedure for optimization of the switched reluctance drive, in order to achieve required torque-speed characteristics. SRM configuration and characteristics are given, and experimental verification of the modeled characteristic is presented.

DC-Assisted Bipolar Switched Reluctance Machine

IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 2015
In this paper, a sinusoidally excited four-phase switched reluctance machine (SRM) with modified DC assisted windings is presented. The proposed four-phase SRM configuration with modified DC windings has reduced number of controllable phases and power converter devices.

Prediction of acoustic noise in switched reluctance machines

IECON 2013 - 39th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2013
This paper presents a fast and precise acoustic noise imaging technique for switched reluctance machines (SRM). This method is based on distribution of radial vibration in the stator frame of the SRM. Radial vibration of the stator frame, at a network of probing points, is computed using input phase current and phase voltage waveforms.
