Switch and crossing inspections and maintenance management using handheld computers

4th IET International Conference on Railway Condition Monitoring (RCM 2008), 2008
This paper discusses a new tool designed to assist in the performance of switch and crossing inspections. Known as SwitchlnspectTM, this PDA-based program allows the inspection to be conducted in electronic format. With measurements and defects recorded in this manner, the collected information may be used to more efficiently manage maintenance ...

Multicasting optical cross connects employing splitter-and-delivery switch

IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 1998
A new splitter-and-delivery (SAD) switch having multicasting capability is proposed. It is best implemented in a single silicon board using planar silica waveguide technology. Less than -40-dB crosstalk is achievable by an auxiliary action of the optical gate. Three optical cross-connect architectures employing the SAD switch are proposed.

Stance-taking, accommodation, code switching and language crossing

Language and Dialogue, 2019
AbstractThis study involves an in-depth analysis of a sociolinguistic interview between the researcher and a college student in his junior year, herein named “Alex”. Within the entirety of the transcription, I conducted a detailed investigation of the interviewee’s linguistic features and strategies. He attempted to achieve several communicative goals,

Code-switching, language crossing and mediatized translinguistic practices

2019
Contrary to lay perceptions, code-switching (CS) is neither simply a strategy to compensate language attrition nor linguistic accommodation. It involves negotiations of self-identity in relation to particular communities. The first part of this chapter reviews studies of code-switching between Japanese and another language (English, Korean, Portuguese,

Guided-wave Electro-optic X-type Switches: Symmetry, Switching Characteristics and Cross-talk

Journal of Modern Optics, 1988
Abstract The influence of branching asymmetry and electrode offset on the switching characteristics and cross-talk of X-type switches is analysed theoretically. The relationship between the switch symmetry (i.e. the existence of a plane or centre of inversion) and the switching characteristics is found.
