Aerodynamic losses in switched reluctancemachines

IEE Proceedings - Electric Power Applications, 2000
A computational and experimental study of aerodynamic losses in switched reluctance machines, with particular reference to establishing the influence of various design parameters and the merits of various prediction techniques is reported. The flow of air around switched reluctance rotors has been calculated by a series of two- and three-dimensional ...

Loss reduction by network switching

IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 1988
Systematic and fast switching for the purposes of reducing losses in power transmission networks is treated as an optimization problem whereby switching is to be understood in a general and comprehensive way. Injected currents applied to a base network are used to model the switching operation.

Modeling of losses in switched reluctance machines

38th IAS Annual Meeting on Conference Record of the Industry Applications Conference, 2003., 2004
Switched reluctance motor (SRM) performance prediction requires the modeling of iron losses. The iron loss model in this paper separates the iron losses into two components, eddy-current and hysteresis losses, and models the losses as a function of the derivative of flux density. The model is suitable for the nonsinusoidal flux densities in the SRM and

Decrease of power electronic switching losses using variable switching events

2020 22nd European Conference on Power Electronics and Applications (EPE'20 ECCE Europe), 2020
The electric range of an electric vehicle depends amongst others on the efficiency of electric components. This paper focuses on the efficiency of the inverter in one-phase operation. A comparison of three different PWM patterns is presented concerning their efforts to minimize the switching losses of the inverter and reducing the distortion of ...

Understanding switching losses in SiC MOSFET: Toward lossless switching

2015 IEEE 3rd Workshop on Wide Bandgap Power Devices and Applications (WiPDA), 2015
Due to the limitation in circuit measurements using current and voltage probes, the conventional ways of measuring switching losses lack the physical insight of the complicated witching process in power devices such as the SiC power MOSFET. This paper seeks to have a better understanding of the dynamic turn-on and turn-off processes of the SiC power ...

Low loss ferroelectric microwave switch

1962 International Electron Devices Meeting, 1962
A low loss ferroelectric microwave switch has been developed recently for operation at L-band frequencies. The switch is constructed in strip transmission line using (Ba-Sr)TiO 3 as the active element. It is capable of switching in less than 0.1 usec and provides isolation in excess of 20 db with an insertion loss of less than 0.7 db over a band of 20 ...

Losses in soft-switched and hard-switched voltage inverters

2003 IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics ( Cat. No.03TH8692), 2004
This paper introduces an adequate loss model, based on the experimental results, which can be used to estimate the losses in hard-switched and soft-switched inverters. As an example and considering the use of IGBTs, it compares the losses produced by hard-switched, auxiliary resonant commutated pole (ARCP) and quasi-square-wave (QSW) inverters for ...

Prediction of switching loss variations by averaged switch modeling

APEC 2000. Fifteenth Annual IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition (Cat. No.00CH37058), 2002
An analytical averaged equivalent circuit model is derived revealing how dominant loss mechanisms vary with power converter operating point in a PWM converter. The model is based on the operational characteristics of power diodes and IGBTs. Laboratory experiments support the derived model and confirm that IGBT current tailing and diode reverse-recovery

Switching loss reduction of MOSFET using switching assist circuit

2015 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology (ICIT), 2015
This paper describes a new high-efficiency and high-speed switching method of a MOSFET using a switching assist circuit fed by the gate drive power supply. By applying the proposed circuit to a chopper and an inverter, a turn-off time of the MOSFET can be effectively reduced, which allows a higher-frequency operation and reduction of the turn-on loss ...

Investigation on Switching Energy Losses in Reversely Switched Dynistor

IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics, 2014
This paper presents theoretical and experimental results on the energy loss characteristics of reversely switched dynistor (RSD) under high-current conditions. Theoretical analysis was performed based on a 1-D modified model by taking account into the carrier-carrier scattering effect and auger recombination effect during the conducting process.
