On‐Surface Synthesis of Bismuth Monolayers through Ice‐Confined Redox Reactions

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We report an ice‐confined growth strategy for the synthesis of atomically thin 2D bismuth and related 2D metals. This approach involves rapid freezing of a BiCl3 aqueous solution on an aluminum foil using liquid nitrogen, which triggers interfacial redox reactions between the ice and the aluminum surface.

Sturge-weber syndrome: a case report with persistent headache

open access: yesThe Pan African Medical Journal, 2014
Sturge-Weber syndrome (SWS) is a rare congenital disorder characterized by a facial vascular nevus associated with an ipsilateral leptomeningeal angioma. Headache is a rare component of SWS and when it occurs it usually occurs as a migraine-like headache.

4D Bioprinted Self‐Folding Scaffolds Enhance Cartilage Formation in the Engineering of Trachea

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, Volume 10, Issue 6, March 18, 2025.
A bilayer self‐folding scaffold, triggerable by humidity, is fabricated via 4D bioprinting for trachea engineering. An analytical model is derived to predict its radius of curvature, enabling its scalability. Cartilage progenitor cells seeded on the scaffold perceive scaffold final curvature and react to it, by enhancing the upregulation of pro ...

Exacerbated global surface water stress under climate change

open access: yesGeography and Sustainability
Water stress is expected to intensify due to escalating atmospheric and surface dryness under global warming. Despite extensive research indicate that intensified dryness exacerbates water constraints on ecosystems, the dynamics and underlying mechanisms

Enhanced Self‐Phase Modulation in Silicon Nitride Waveguides Integrated With 2D MoS2 Films

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT On‐chip integration of 2D materials provides a promising route toward next‐generation integrated optical devices with performance beyond existing limits. Here, significantly enhanced spectral broadening induced by self‐phase modulation (SPM) is experimentally demonstrated in silicon nitride (Si3N4) waveguides integrated with 2D monolayer ...

3D Elastomeric Kirigami for Passively Stretchable Fully Soft Vacuum‐Powered Artificial Muscles

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
The creation of purely soft, passively stretchable artificial muscles has long been a hot topic in robotics research. Here, we present a design approach involving the extension of 2D kirigami to 3D elastomeric kirigami structures. In a biomimetic demonstration of the human upper arm, this approach successfully simulated the driving mechanism ...

Fold Walker: An Origami‐Inspired Quadruped Robot for Multipattern Locomotion and Object Grasping

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This article presents Fold Walker, an origami‐inspired quadruped robot capable of multipattern locomotion and object grasping. With each leg featuring two rotational folds, the robot can transform from a flat 2D configuration into complex 3D poses. Furthermore, its trunk and legs can be one‐shot 3D printed as a unified structure, greatly simplifying ...

A new sea surface wind speed product derived from re-calibrated FengYun-3 MWRI data

open access: yesInternational Journal of Digital Earth
Sea surface wind speed (SWS) is critical for climate change monitoring, sea-atmosphere interaction studies and wind energy development. The Microwave Radiation Imager (MWRI) onboard the Chinese Fengyun-3 (FY-3) satellites provides an essential tool for ...
