Adaptive Multiscale Symbolic-Dynamics Entropy for Condition Monitoring of Rotating Machinery [PDF]

open access: yesEntropy, 2019
Vibration data from rotating machinery working in different conditions display different properties in spatial and temporal scales. As a result, insights into spatial- and temporal-scale structures of vibration data of rotating machinery are fundamental ...

Predictive Quantization and Symbolic Dynamics

open access: yesAlgorithms, 2022
Capturing long-term statistics of signals and time series is important for modeling recurrent phenomena, especially when such recurrences are a-periodic and can be characterized by the approximate repetition of variable length motifs, such as patterns in

Effective Symbolic Dynamics

open access: yesElectronic Notes in Theoretical Computer Science, 2008
AbstractWe investigate computable subshifts and the connection with effective symbolic dynamics. It is shown that a decidable Π10 class P is a subshift if and only if there is a computable function F mapping 2N to 2N such that P is the set of itineraries of elements of 2N. A Π10 subshift is constructed which has no computable element.

Category theory of symbolic dynamics

open access: yesTheoretical Computer Science, 2015
We study the central objects of symbolic dynamics, that is, subshifts and block maps, from the perspective of basic category theory, and present several natural categories with subshifts as objects and block maps as morphisms. Our main goals are to find universal objects in these symbolic categories, to classify their block maps based on their category

Ordinal Spectrum: Mapping Ordinal Patterns into Frequency Domain [PDF]

open access: yesEntropy
Classical spectral analysis characterizes linear systems effectively but often fails to reveal the nonlinear temporal structure of chaotic dynamics. We introduce the ordinal spectrum, a frequency-domain characterization derived from the ordinal-pattern ...

Neural Evidence of Mirror Self-Recognition in the Secondary Somatosensory Cortex of Macaque: Observations from a Single-Cell Recording Experiment and Implications for Consciousness

open access: yesBrain Sciences, 2021
Despite mirror self-recognition being regarded as a classical indication of self-awareness, little is known about its neural underpinnings. An increasing body of evidence pointing to a role of multimodal somatosensory neurons in self-recognition guided ...

Attractors in Pattern Iterations of Flat Top Tent Maps

open access: yesMathematics, 2023
Flat-topped one-dimensional maps have been used in the control of chaos in one-dimensional dynamical systems. In these applications, this mechanism is known as simple limiter control.

Statistical Tests of Symbolic Dynamics

open access: yesMathematics, 2021
A novel general method for constructing nonparametric hypotheses tests based on the field of symbolic analysis is introduced in this paper. Several existing tests based on symbolic entropy that have been used for testing central hypotheses in several ...
