Pseudo chaotic pulse position modulation in UWB communications
A novel pseudo chaotic pulse position modulation(PCPPM) was proposed which was suitable for ultrawide-bandwith impulse radio communication systems,in this scheme, symbolic dynamics of a chaotic map was used for chaotic pulse position modulation(CPPM),the ...

Symbolic Dynamical Characterization for Multistability in Remote Synchronization Phenomena
Two of the most remarkable phenomena in non-linear systems are multistability and remote synchronization. In the first one, depending on the initial conditions, the system may set in different states after the transient, while in the other, dynamical ...

Newton’s method and symbolic dynamics [PDF]
The starting point of the paper is a result by B. Barna stating the convergence of Newton's method to a root of a polynomial, except for a set of initial points homeomorphic to a Cantor set. The assumptions of Barna's theorem are that: (1) the polynomial has degree at least four; (2) all the roots are real, distinct, and simple.

Blind System Identification Using Symbolic Dynamics
In this paper, a chaos-based approach is proposed for system identification with binary random signal. A chaos-based approach is developed to model random binary sequence and is applied to blind system identification.

Markovian language model of the DNA and its information content [PDF]
This work proposes a Markovian memoryless model for the DNA that simplifies enormously the complexity of it. We encode nucleotide sequences into symbolic sequences, called words, from which we establish meaningful length of words and groups of words that

There is a lack of studies on non-linear heart rate (HR) variability in athletes. We aimed to assess the usefulness of short-term HR dynamics and asymmetry parameters to evaluate the neural modulation of cardiac activity based on non-stationary RR ...

Digital Communication Systems Based on Three-Dimensional Chaotic Attractors
In this paper, we propose a methodology to design chaos-based communication systems, which exploits the topological structure of 3-D chaotic attractors. The first step consists in defining a proper partition of a Poincaré section of the attractor

Statistical Mechanics and Information-Theoretic Perspectives on Complexity in the Earth System
This review provides a summary of methods originated in (non-equilibrium) statistical mechanics and information theory, which have recently found successful applications to quantitatively studying complexity in various components of the complex system ...

AbstractWe investigate computable subshifts and the connection with effective symbolic dynamics. It is shown that a decidable Π10 class P is a subshift if and only if there is a computable function F mapping 2N to 2N such that P is the set of itineraries of elements of 2N. A Π10 subshift is constructed which has no computable element.
