A combined finite element and phase‐field approach predicts the evolution of microstructure during the directional solidification of Ni‐based superalloys. The model reveals how withdrawal rate, temperature gradient, and wall thickness control the dendrite spacing, highlighting the strong effect of surface regions in thin sections where dendrite growth ...

Rigidity of symmetric products
For a continuum (i.e., a nondegenerate compact connected metric space) \(X\) and a positive integer \(n\), let \(F_n (X)\) denote the \(n\)-th symmetric product of \(X\), that is, the hyperspace of all nonempty subsets of \(X\) with at most \(n\) points whose topology is endowed with the Hausdorff metric.

Creating Ti–Fe α/β Alloys by Diffusion‐Driven Solid‐State Processing
This study proposes making alloys containing fast diffusing elements that are difficult to produce by ingot metallurgy, by diffusion‐driven solid‐state HIP processing of elemental powders and low‐temperature homogenisation. Here, novel Fe‐Ti α–β alloys are formed having fine α–β lamellae, a small β prior grain size without significant intermetallics ...

Phase‐field simulations coupled with dislocation‐density‐based crystal plasticity modeling reproduce γ′ rafting behavior in single‐crystal Ni‐based superalloys under varied loading conditions. The model captures both macroscopic creep and microscopic morphology evolution, with results matching high‐temperature creep experiments.

On symmetric products of curves [PDF]
In view of the increasing fashionability of symmetric products these days, we would like to note here that certain proofs in the algebro-geometric literature about curves and their Jacobians gain somewhat in clarity if they are placed on the symmetric product of the curve with itself.

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Dendrites and symmetric products
For a given continuum $X$ and a natural number $n,$ we consider the hyperspace $F_n(X)$ of all nonempty subsets of $X$ with at most $n$ points, metrized by the Hausdorff metric. In this paper we show that if $X$ is a dendrite whose set of end points is closed, $n \in \mathbb{N}$ and $Y$ is a continuum such that the hyperspaces $F_n(X)$ and $F_n(Y)$ are
