Checkpoint for Synapsis

Science, 2005
The complex mechanics of the eukaryotic cell cycle is monitored at a number of points to ensure that everything is going according to plan before the next step in the process is executed. Known checkpoints include DNA replication, DNA damage, and spindle function. Bhalla and Dernburg identify a checkpoint that monitors synapsis, or pairing

On transmission of information by synapsis

International Journal of Bio-Medical Computing, 1970
Abstract This study is a solution to a problem of information transmission by synapsis which is reduced to the integration of the equation with partial derivatives of the heat type with mixed conditions. The solution z(x, t) found is represented by an integral of Fourier series which tends to a singular integral in the neighbourhood of x = 0+, the

Synapsis and recombination in inversion heterozygotes

Biochemical Society Transactions, 2010
Inversion heterozygotes are expected to suffer from reduced fertility and a high incidence of chromosomally unbalanced gametes due to recombination within the inverted region. Non-homologous synapsis of the inverted regions can prevent recombination there and diminish the deleterious effects of inversion heterozygosity.
