Design of a synchronous reluctance motor drive

IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 1991
A segmental-rotor synchronous reluctance motor is used in a variable-speed drive with current-regulated pulse-width-modulated (PWM) control. The low-speed torque capability is compared with that of an induction motor, a switched reluctance motor, and a brushless DC PM motor of identical size and copper weight.

Development of an Electric Vehicle Synchronous Reluctance Motor Drive

IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, 2020
This paper presents the development and control of an electric vehicle (EV) synchronous reluctance motor (SynRM) drive. A bilateral DC/DC converter is used as an interface between the battery and the motor drive. The boostable and well-regulated DC-link voltage with robust regulation control can enhance the motor driving performance in wide speed range.

Synchronous motor drives-a forgotten option

2015 Intl Aegean Conference on Electrical Machines & Power Electronics (ACEMP), 2015 Intl Conference on Optimization of Electrical & Electronic Equipment (OPTIM) & 2015 Intl Symposium on Advanced Electromechanical Motion Systems (ELECTROMOTION), 2015
Before the evolution of the modern insulated gate bipolar transistor in the 1980s, thyristor fed synchronous motor drives were widely used and accepted as a reliable means to obtain variable speed operation of a mechanical load at good efficiency. However, since the turn of the century, permanent magnet motor drives have assumed favor as the drive of ...

Induction motors for synchronized drives

Electrical Engineering, 1949
THERE are two types of synchronized drives of two or more mechanically independent shafts commonly known: one is the “power selsyn” or “synchro-tie;” and the other might be called the “simplified selsyn.” The first system uses, besides one or more prime movers, individual selsyn motors for synchronizing.

Synchronous motor drives

2019
This chapter deals with the development of model, simulation and hardware implementation of the synchronous motor (SM) drive under various operating conditions. In the modeling of vector-controlled PMSM drive, the complete model of the SM drive system is developed for different types of speed controllers with a view to improving the performance of the ...

A Synchronous Thyristorized DC Motor Drive

IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 1979
A thyristorized dc motor speed control system using phase-locked loop principle is presented. Linear model analysis is given and control performance is studied in terms of system parameters using the root-locus technique. Practical design aspects are discussed, and experimental results obtained with a prototype system intended for a separately excited ?

Stability Analysis of the Coupled Synchronous Reluctance Motor Drives

IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems II: Express Briefs, 2017
The oscillation-quenching phenomena in coupled synchronous reluctance motor (SynRM) drives are analyzed. The basins of attraction of a single SynRM drive are studied. The multistability of the coupled system is analytically and numerically studied. Due to the coexistence of multiple stable attractors, the coupled system can be stabilized at different ...

Application of the Integrated Diode Synchronous Motor to Traction Drive Motors

Electrical Engineering in Japan, 2017
SUMMARYIn this study, a traction drive electric motor was designed with a new magnet‐free motor design technique where electromagnets are generated on a rotor by utilizing changes in the spatial second harmonic of the magnetic fields. To apply the proposed technique to electric motor design, balancing the rotor and stator magnetomotive force is ...
