Advanced Motor Technologies: Synchronous Motors and Drives
1997In the context of low (medium) power drives, various types of synchronous motors are analysed, with reference to the given performance in terms of efficiency. Mainly, P.M. excited machines are considered, with reference to adoption of both rare-earth and ferrite magnets, for different kinds of motor construction.

A Model Predictive Control for Synchronous Motor Drive with Integral Action
IECON 2018 - 44th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2018This paper deals with a novel robust current control scheme for Synchronous Motor (SM) drives, based on the Model Predictive Control (MPC) theory augmented with an Integral Action. The increased robustness is achieved through the integrator, nevertheless the same effective MPC quadratic formulation is hold.

THYRISTOR CONVERTER-FED SYNCHRONOUS MOTOR DRIVE
Electric Machines & Power Systems, 1981ABSTRACT The development, design and construction of a variable speed drive using a synchronous motor is described in this paper. At first, the operation of motor with a current-fed, motor e. m. f. commutated inverter is explained. The working of control circuitry is explained next with the aid of logic and functional blocks.

Permanent magnet synchronous motor drives
2015The aim of the chapter is to enable the power electronics community to address emerging (but proven) topics in electrical drives, with special emphasis on permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drives. Among the many alternatives, the collected material was classified according to the type of control, further detailed when necessary for the specific

A Cycloconverter - Synchronous Motor Drive for Traction Applications
IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 1981An electric drive suitable for traction is described consisting of a cycloconverter and a synchronous motor. Essentially, the same system can be used with either single-phase or three-phase input with frequencies around 50-100 Hz. The motor speed range is not limited by the input frequency.

Motor-converter synchronization phenomena in the subsynchronous cascade drive
2014 International Conference on Electrical Machines (ICEM), 2014In the past, subsynchronous cascade drive behavior at slips that are a multiple of 1/6 has caused controversy among researchers. A new approach for predicting and interpreting drive behavior at these slips is presented in this paper. With the help of the space vector theory, an analytical investigation that shows a specific synchronization of the ...

Synchronous Motor Drive with Current-Source Inverter
IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 1974Steady-state properties of a variable-speed drive using a synchronous motor fed by a controlled current-source inverter are derived from an equivalent circuit model, including saturation, and are confirmed by experiment. The system is shown to be stable under all operating conditions. Control strategy for open-loop operation is discussed.

Microprocessor controlled synchronous motor drive
2011With advances in power electronics and microprocessors, self-controlled synchronous motors are becoming more commonly employed for servo drive applications, not only because of their absence of brushes and commutator but more importantly because their characteristics and controllability are similar to those of conventional dc motors.

Variable Frequency Synchronous Motor Drives
1985The speed of a synchronous motor with constant rotor excitation is determined by the stator frequency and the number of poles. As long as an efficient, variable frequency power supply was not available this meant constant speed operation at fixed frequency.
