Quantifying Microstructural Evolution in Moving Magma
Many of the grand challenges in volcanic and magmatic research are focused on understanding the dynamics of highly heterogeneous systems and the critical conditions that enable magmas to move or eruptions to initiate.

Vacuum-Ultraviolet Absorption Spectra of Icy C2H4 at 13–60 K
The thermal variation of absorption spectra of icy ethene in wavelength range 105–220 nm was measured from 13 to 100 K using a synchrotron as light source. Sublimation of icy ethene began above 62 K, resulting in decreasing absorption.

SOFT: A synthetic synchrotron diagnostic for runaway electrons
Improved understanding of the dynamics of runaway electrons can be obtained by measurement and interpretation of their synchrotron radiation emission.

On the origin of >10 GeV photons in gamma-ray burst afterglows
Fermi/LAT has detected long-lasting high-energy photons (>100 MeV) from gamma-ray bursts (GRBs), with the highest energy photons reaching about 100 GeV.

Near-infrared synchrotron emission from the compact jet of GX339-4 [PDF]
We have compiled contemporaneous broadband observations of the black hole candidate X-ray binary GX 339-4 when in the low/hard X-ray state in 1981 and 1997.

Volcanoes Erupt Stressed Quartz Crystals
Volcanic eruptions are energetic events driven by the imbalance of magmatic forces. The magnitudes of these forces remain poorly constrained because they operate in regions that are inaccessible, either underground or dangerous to approach.

High-pressure single-crystal diffraction at the Australian Synchrotron
A new high-pressure single-crystal diffraction setup has been designed and implemented at the Australian Synchrotron for collecting molecular and protein crystal structures. The setup incorporates a modified micro-Merrill–Bassett cell and holder designed

SUPERLUMINAL SYNCHROTRON RADIATION
To avoid complex computations based on wide Fourier expansions, the electromagnetic field of synchrotron radiation (SR) was analyzed using Lienard–Wiechert potentials in this work. The retardation equation was solved for ultrarelativistic movement of rotating charge at distances up to the trajectory radius.

Synchrotron radiation of crystallized beams [PDF]
We study the modifications of synchrotron radiation of charges in a storage ring as they are cooled. The pair correlation lengths between the charges are manifest in the synchrotron radiation and coherence effects exist for wavelengths longer than the ...
