Abstract Background Integrin is an αβ heterodimeric receptor to the extracellular matrix; its binding to the matrix recruits focal adhesions to two NPxY motifs, the tyrosine phosphorylation sites in the cytoplasmic domain. Studies found that replacing tyrosines (Y) with phenylalanines (F) in the motif of β1 integrin displayed little developmental or ...

Syndecan-4 is the key proteoglycan involved in mediating sepsis-associated lung injury
Vascular endothelial cell dysfunction involving syndecan (SDC) proteoglycans contributes to acute sepsis-associated lung injury (ALI), but the exact SDC isoform involved is unclear. We aimed to clarify which SDCs are involved in ALI.

Syndecans in tumor cell adhesion and signaling
Anchorage of cells to "heparin" – binding domains that are prevalent in extracellular matrix (ECM) components is thought to occur primarily through the syndecans, a four-member family of transmembrane heparan sulfate proteoglycans that communicate ...

α5β1-Integrin promotes tension-dependent mammary epithelial cell invasion by engaging the fibronectin synergy site. [PDF]
Tumors are fibrotic and characterized by abundant, remodeled, and cross-linked collagen that stiffens the extracellular matrix stroma. The stiffened collagenous stroma fosters malignant transformation of the tissue by increasing tumor cell tension to ...

Neuronal THY1 Signaling Maintains Astrocytes in a Quiescent State
THY1‐bearing neurons keep astrocytes in a quiescent state via the interaction with ITGB1. Depletion of THY1 supports the development of a partially activated astrocyte phenotype. Neuronal THY1 is involved in the maintenance and restoration of tissue homeostasis in the brain. ABSTRACT THY1 is a cell surface protein of mature neurons.
