On syntactic-semantic descriptions of pattern structures and their distance measure

Proceedings of the 1988 IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics, 2005
The form of syntactic-semantic descriptions of pattern structures largely depends on the nature of the patterns. The present paper discusses two major types of pattern structures: sequentially ordered and distributed. Mapped onto some conditionally ordered sequence, the latter will be characterized by its multiple relationship among the primitives. The

Neural Machine Translation with Attention Based on a New Syntactic Branch Distance

2019
Attention mechanism has been proved to be able to improve the quality of neural machine translation by selectively focusing on partial words of a source sentence during translation process. Attention mechanism usually focuses on local attention by using solely the linear index distance of words while ignores syntax structures of sentences.

LONG-DISTANCE ANAPHORS IN HINDI/URDU: SYNTACTIC AND SEMANTIC ISSUES

2000
This chapter explores a version of the head-movement account of long-distance anaphor binding for Chinese ziji . The central idea is that lexical long-distance reflexives like Chinese ziji have the same properties as the Romance se reflexives, cliticized in overt syntax to the TENSE-V complex.
