Benefits of Using a Problem-Solving Scaffold for Teaching and Learning Synthesis in Undergraduate Organic Chemistry I

open access: yesInternational Journal for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, 2016
A problem-solving scaffold approach to synthesis was developed and implemented in two intervention sections of Chemistry 2211K (Organic Chemistry I) at Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC).

Process Synthesis and Design Problems Based on a Global Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2021
Many process synthesis and design problems in engineering are actually mixed integer nonlinear programming problems (MINLP), because they contain both continuous and integer variables. These problems are generally recognized to be complex and intractable

CDK11 inhibition induces cytoplasmic p21WAF1 splice variant by p53 stabilisation and SF3B1 inactivation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CDK11 inhibition stabilises the tumour suppressor p53 and triggers the production of an alternative p21WAF1 splice variant p21L, through the inactivation of the spliceosomal protein SF3B1. Unlike the canonical p21WAF1 protein, p21L is localised in the cytoplasm and has reduced cell cycle‐blocking activity.

Optimum shape synthesis of path generating mechanisms using wavelet descriptors

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Mechanical Design, Systems, and Manufacturing, 2019
The discrete wavelet transform is a well-known mathematical tool for shape recognition. In this study, a wavelet descriptor with two shape signatures, i.e., centroid distance and triangular centroid area, is developed for shape synthesis for path ...

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

Abstract Learning Frameworks for Synthesis

open access: yes, 2016
We develop abstract learning frameworks (ALFs) for synthesis that embody the principles of CEGIS (counter-example based inductive synthesis) strategies that have become widely applicable in recent years. Our framework defines a general abstract framework

Rethinking plastic waste: innovations in enzymatic breakdown of oil‐based polyesters and bioplastics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Plastic pollution remains a critical environmental challenge, and current mechanical and chemical recycling methods are insufficient to achieve a fully circular economy. This review highlights recent breakthroughs in the enzymatic depolymerization of both oil‐derived polyesters and bioplastics, including high‐throughput protein engineering, de novo ...

Transforming Undecidable Synthesis Problems into Decidable Problems

open access: yesEPiC Series in Computing, 2018
Synthesis holds the promise to revolutionize the development ofcomplex systems by automating the translation from specifications toimplementations. Synthesis algorithms are based on the same level ofmathematical rigor as verification algorithms but can be applied atearlier development stages, when only parts of the design areavailable.
