Saturation with chiral interactions and consequences for finite nuclei

open access: yes, 2017
We explore the impact of nuclear matter saturation on the properties and systematics of finite nuclei across the nuclear chart. Using the ab initio in-medium similarity renormalization group (IM-SRG), we study ground-state energies and charge radii of ...

Somatic mutational landscape in von Hippel–Lindau familial hemangioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The causes of central nervous system (CNS) hemangioblastoma in Von Hippel–Lindau (vHL) disease are unclear. We used Whole Exome Sequencing (WES) on familial hemangioblastoma to investigate events that underlie tumor development. Our findings suggest that VHL loss creates a permissive environment for tumor formation, while additional alterations ...

Substrate preference by the porcelain crab Pachycheles monilifer (Crustacea, Anomura): the bryozoan Schizoporella errata or the polychaete Phragmatopoma caudata?

open access: yesNauplius
Differences on reproductive performance between two sampling points of the porcelain crab Pachycheles monilifer from Ubatuba (São Paulo, Brazil), one from Itaguá Beach (living on Schizoporella errata) and the other from Grande Beach (living on ...

Resource reallocation under persistent immune activation drives trade-offs between life history and immunity in pirk-deficient Musca domestica

open access: yesBMC Biology
Background The activation of the immune system by pathogens imposes significant energetic costs on hosts, which may result in the diversion of resources away from other non-essential biological processes, such as growth and reproduction.

Hadron Systematics and Emergent Diquarks

open access: yes, 2005
We briefly review a variety of theoretical and phenomenological indications for the probable importance of powerful diquark correlations in hadronic physics.

Differential expression of cancer‐related genes supports prediction of poor response to first‐line treatments in T‐ALL pediatric patients with high minimal residual disease

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the present work, we have identified a transcriptional signature based on the differential expression of six genes (BCL2&MAST4, HSH2D&LAT2, METRN&PITPNM2) that would facilitate the early detection of T‐cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T‐ALL) patients prone to a poor treatment response and could be implemented at diagnosis, along with other risk ...

Internal Robustness: systematic search for systematic bias in SN Ia data

open access: yes, 2013
A great deal of effort is currently being devoted to understanding, estimating and removing systematic errors in cosmological data. In the particular case of type Ia supernovae, systematics are starting to dominate the error budget.

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

Longitudinal circulating tumor DNA profiling in patients with advanced endometrial cancer using an off‐the‐shelf targeted NGS panel

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Intratumour heterogeneity complicates precision management of advanced endometrial cancer. Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) offers a minimally invasive strategy to capture tumor evolution and therapeutic resistance. Here, we compare tumor‐agnostic NGS with tumor‐informed ddPCR, outlining their relative sensitivity, concordance, and clinical implications ...
