Galectin-3. One molecule for an alphabet of diseases, from A to Z [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Galectin-3 (Gal-3) regulates basic cellular functions such as cell–cell and cell–matrix interactions, growth, proliferation, differentiation, and inflammation.

Evaluating body roundness index and systemic immune inflammation index for mortality prediction in MAFLD patients

open access: yesScientific Reports
Metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is a major cause of liver-related morbidity and mortality, contributing to both cardiovascular and non-cardiovascular deaths.

Are Systemic Inflammation Response Index and Systemic Immune-Inflammation Index an ideal biomarker for epileptic patients?

open access: yes, 2023
Abstract Background and Purpose inflammation is considered responsible for the pathogenesis of epilepsy. Inflammation plays a pivotal role in epilepsy.Various inflammatory markers are known related to epilepsy. No study has yet investigated the relationship between epilepsy and systemic inflammation response index (SIRI) and systemic immune ...

In vitro properties of patient serum predict clinical outcome after high dose rate brachytherapy of hepatocellular carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Following high dose rate brachytherapy (HDR‐BT) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), patients were classified as responders and nonresponders. Post‐therapy serum induced increased BrdU incorporation and Cyclin E expression of Huh7 and HepG2 cells in nonresponders, but decreased levels in responders.

Vitamin D supplementation in the pediatric rheumatology clinic. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Vitamin D is capturing the attention of healthy and chronically ill populations for its potential skeletal and nonskeletal benefits. New information suggesting a role in immune modulation has led to a surge of interest among rheumatologists. Although the

Saturation effects of the relationship between physical exercise and systemic immune inflammation index in the short-sleep population: a cross-sectional study

open access: yesBMC Public Health
Short sleep can lead to an increase in inflammation and regular exercise has been shown to have a mitigation effect. However, the association between physical exercise (PE) and inflammation in the short sleep population is an unknown and intriguing issue.

LINC01116, a hypoxia‐lncRNA marker of pathological lymphangiogenesis and poor prognosis in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The LINC01116 long noncoding RNA is induced by hypoxia and associated with poor prognosis and high recurrence rates in two cohorts of lung adenocarcinoma patients. Here, we demonstrate that besides its expression in cancer cells, LINC01116 is markedly expressed in lymphatic endothelial cells of the tumor stroma in which it participates in hypoxia ...

The prognostic value of the systemic immune-inflammatory index and the systemic inflammation response index in pediatric immune thrombocytopenia

open access: yesEgyptian Pediatric Association Gazette
Background Inflammation plays a pivotal role in the persistence of immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) through the activity of inflammatory cells.
