Prognostic importance of the systemic inflammatory index and the systemic inflammatory response index in COVID-19 patients

open access: yesEmergency Care Journal
COVID-19 can cause a wide range of effects on patients, from asymptomatic cases to mortality. Many factors can affect the prognosis of the disease. Our study aims to evaluate the predictive power of the Systemic Inflammatory Index (SII) and Systemic ...

Comparative Evaluation of Hemodiafiltration, Hemoperfusion, and Standard Hemodialysis on Efficacy, Inflammatory Control, Dialysis Adequacy, and Safety in End‐Stage Renal Disease: A Prospective Observational Study

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Chronic micro‐inflammation in patients with end‐stage renal disease (ESRD) is a significant driver of cardiovascular complications and diminished quality of life. While standard hemodialysis (SHD) effectively manages small‐molecule clearance, its ability to remove medium‐to‐large uremic toxins—the primary catalysts of systemic ...

Evaluation of pseudoexfoliation syndrome patients with systemic immune indexes

open access: yesBMC Ophthalmology
Purpose The aim of this study was to investigate the level of peripheral blood systemic immune indexes in pseudoexfoliation syndrome (PXS) patients and to compare the results with healthy controls.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Prognostic value of systemic immune-inflammation index and systemic inflammation response index for oral cancers: A systematic review and meta-analysis [PDF]

open access: yesMedicina Oral Patología Oral y Cirugia Bucal
The systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) and systemic inflammation response index (SIRI) are commonly used prognostic indicators for a variety of cancers. However, their utility in oral cancers is unknown. We systematically examined evidence on the ability of SII and SIRI to predict overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) after oral ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Evaluation of the Systemic Immune-Inflammation Index and Systemic Inflammatory Response Index in Ankylosing Spondylitis Patients

open access: yesİstanbul Medical Journal, 2023
Introduction: The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between the Systemic Immune-Inflammation Index (SII) and Systemic Inflammation Response Index (SIRI) and disease activity in patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS).

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

Systemic Immune Inflammation Index, Systemic Inflammation Response Index, Aggregate Index of Systemic Inflammation, and Follistatin-Like Protein-1 Levels in Children Diagnosed with Pneumonia

open access: yesPediatric Allergy, Immunology, and Pulmonology
Background: This study aims to evaluate systemic immune inflammation index, systemic inflammatory response index (SIRI), aggregate index of systemic inflammation (AISI), and follistatin-like protein-1 (FSTL-1) levels in children with pneumonia and healthy controls.
