Effects of resistant starch on blood pressure and autonomic function in women with the risk of metabolic syndrome: A randomized double-blind pilot study

open access: yesJournal of International Medical Research
Objective Resistant starch is associated with metabolic benefits, but whether autonomic regulation links resistant starch intake to cardiovascular outcomes remains unclear. This study examined the effects of resistant starch on heart rate variability and

Indices of Systemic Inflammation Are Elevated in Women With Evidence of Metabolic Syndrome After Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction

open access: yesArthroscopy, Sports Medicine, and Rehabilitation, EarlyView.
Purpose To investigate the association between metabolic syndrome (MetSy) and systemic indices of the immune system and inflammation after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR). Methods This retrospective study included adult patients (≥18 years) who underwent ACLR at a single academic institution between 2009 and 2022.

Ixekizumab With Tirzepatide Achieved Greater Disease Control Than Ixekizumab Alone in Adults With Psoriatic Arthritis and Overweight or Obesity: Results From a Randomized Clinical Trial

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Objective Overweight or obesity is prevalent in 72% to 82% of individuals with psoriatic arthritis (PsA). We assessed the efficacy and safety of ixekizumab (IXE) concomitantly administered with tirzepatide (TZP) compared with IXE alone in adult participants with active PsA and overweight with at least one weight‐related comorbidity or obesity.

Effects of crossed leg on blood pressure

open access: yes, 2004
It is known that many factors influence an individual's blood pressure measurement. However, guidelines for accurately measuring blood pressure inconsistently specify that the patient should keep feet flat on the floor. The purpose of this study was

Integrated Clinical and Proteomic Profiling of CD19 Chimeric Antigen Receptor T Cell Therapy in Progressive Systemic Sclerosis

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Objective To characterize the clinical, immunologic, and proteomic changes associated with CD19 chimeric antigen receptor T cell therapy in patients with progressive systemic sclerosis (SSc). Methods Patients with progressive SSc received CD19 chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)‐T cell therapy and were observed longitudinally for safety, clinical efficacy,

Nonadherence and uncontrolled arterial hypertension in Croatia—Insights from the May Measurement Month 2023 campaign and Hunting the silent killer programme

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Aims To determine the prevalence of non‐adherence to antihypertensive medicines and to identify demographic and behavioral factors associated with non‐adherence in subjects enrolled in the May Measurement Month (MMM) 2023, as part of the permanent public health action Hunting the silent killer.

The association between blood pressure variability and renal damage in patients with primary aldosteronism

open access: yesThe Journal of Clinical Hypertension
This research examines the association between blood pressure variability (BPV) and renal damage in a cohort of 129 primary aldosteronism (PA) patients, employing ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) for comparative analysis with individuals ...

Blood pressure effects of SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP‐1 receptor agonists: Mechanisms, trial evidence and Real‐world data

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP‐1 receptor agonists modestly lower blood pressure across diverse patient populations, including those without diabetes. These effects appear largely independent of glycaemic control and offer additive value in high‐risk patients with overlapping comorbidities.

Possible therapeutic repositioning of valproic acid: From epileptic seizures to acute kidney injury

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Valproic acid, an anticonvulsant, may be repositioned to prevent acute kidney injury due to ischemia followed by reperfusion. It preserves renal functions, electrolyte homeostasis and active sodium transport in kidney tubules, and blocks the onset of hypertension.

Lowering salivary pH with sugar‐containing gum augments salivary nitrite production and blood pressure reduction with dietary nitrate (beetroot juice)

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Acutely lowering salivary pH (with sugar‐containing acidic gum vs. sugar‐free gum) augments salivary nitrate reduction to nitrite, plasma nitrite concentration, and blood pressure lowering with dietary nitrate. Modifying salivary pH reveals a mechanism by which the nitrate‐nitrite‐NO pathway may be upregulated/inhibited, with potential for other ...
