In vivo imaging enables high resolution preclinical trials on patients' leukemia cells growing in mice. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Xenograft mouse models represent helpful tools for preclinical studies on human tumors. For modeling the complexity of the human disease, primary tumor cells are by far superior to established cell lines.

Cardiac tamponade as an initial atypical presentation of T-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma in a 17-year-old adolescent: a case report

open access: yesJournal of Medical Case Reports
Background T-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma is a type of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, which usually affects adolescents and young adults. The usual presentation is characterized by B symptoms and adenopathy associated with a mediastinal mass.

Targeting transcription factors associated with hemoglobinopathies: Lessons from successful interventions and implications for cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review summarizes the transcription factors, repressive chromatin‐modifying complexes, and epigenetic mechanisms that control fetal hemoglobin repression. Notably, many regulators of γ‐globin silencing also function in transcriptional and epigenetic networks that drive cancer, highlighting opportunities to translate advances in hemoglobinopathy ...

Multilineage Lymphoblastic Lymphoma as an Initial Presentation of Mixed Phenotype Acute Leukemia

open access: yesCase Reports in Hematology, 2023
Mixed phenotype acute leukemia (MPAL) is characterized by leukemic blasts that express markers of multiple lineages. Compared with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), MPAL is considered to have a poor treatment outcome ...

Ionomycin suppresses cancer cell growth by disrupting mitochondrial transcription

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In this study, we identify a new function for the selective Ca2+ ionophore, ionomycin, as an inhibitor of mitochondrial transcription. Both total and nascent RNA analyses revealed that ionomycin treatment reduces the transcription of mitochondrial genes.

Using cell‐free RNA to identify B‐ and T‐cell clonality for diagnosis and monitoring of B‐ and T‐cell neoplasms

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Using peripheral blood for determining B‐cell or T‐cell clonality is more reliable when we use cell‐free RNA (cfRNA) because cells release blood significantly more RNA than DNA. Next‐generation sequencing (NGS) of cfRNA allows us to evaluate fragment cfRNA and evaluate clonality reliably without the need for prior determination of the specific dominant

Human immunodeficiency virus-associated precursor T-lymphoblastic leukemia/lymphoblastic lymphoma: report of a case and review of the literature

open access: yes, 2009
We describe a case of human immunodeficiency virus-associated T-lymphoblastic leukemia/lymphoblastic lymphoma in a 43-year-old Italian man with a history of human immunodeficiency virus infection lasting 9 years.

T-Lineage Lymphoblastic Lymphoma and Leukemia—a MASSive Problem [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
T cell precursor malignancies may present as T-lymphoblastic lymphoma (T-LBL) with marked enlargement of lymph nodes or acute T-lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL) with little lymph node enlargement. In this issue of Cancer Cell, Feng et al.
