Development and application of global assays of hyper‐ and hypofibrinolysis

open access: yesResearch and Practice in Thrombosis and Haemostasis, 2020
Numerous methods for evaluation of global fibrinolytic activity in whole blood or plasma have been proposed, with the majority based on tissue‐type plasminogen activator (t‐PA) addition to initiate fibrinolysis. We propose that such an approach is useful

Evaluation of coagulation activation after Rhinovirus infection in patients with asthma and healthy control subjects: an observational study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Background Asthma exacerbations are frequently triggered by rhinovirus infections. Both asthma and respiratory tract infection can activate haemostasis. Therefore we hypothesized that experimental rhinovirus-16 infection and asthmatic airway inflammation

Efficacy and safety of rivaroxaban versus placebo after lower extremity bypass surgery: A post hoc analysis of a “CASPAR like” outcome from VOYAGER PAD

open access: yesClinical Cardiology, Volume 45, Issue 12, Page 1143-1146, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Background The Clopidogrel and Acetylsalicylic Acid in Bypass Surgery for Peripheral Arterial Disease (CASPAR) trial is the only large, double‐blind, placebo‐controlled trial of dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) versus aspirin in patients with peripheral artery disease (PAD) after lower extremity revascularization (LER).

Coexistence of active and hydrodynamic turbulence in two dimensional active nematics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
In active nematic liquid crystals activity is able to drive chaotic spatiotemporal flows referred to as active turbulence. Active turbulence has been characterized through theoretical and experimental work as a low Reynolds number phenomenon. We show that, in two-dimensions, the active forcing alone is able to trigger hydrodynamic turbulence leading to

Fibrinolysis regulation by platelets retaining plasminogen and tissue-type plasminogen activator on their surface [PDF]

open access: yesThe Ukrainian Biochemical Journal, 2019
Platelets play a key role in hemostasis as cofactors of thrombin generation, fibrin polymerization centers, and initiators of clot retraction, while their ability to modulate clot dissolution remains less understood.

Interaction of plasminogen and fibrin in plasminogen activation. [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1990
Glu1-, Lys77-, miniplasminogens, kringle 1-3, kringle 1-5A, and kringle 1-5R were able to bind with fibrin, while microplasminogen and kringle 4 did not bind significantly. Kringle 1-5A, but not kringle 1-3, effectively inhibited the binding of Glu1-, Lys77-, and miniplasminogens with fibrin.

Gene expression of fibrinolytic markers in coronary thrombi

open access: yesThrombosis Journal, 2022
Background The fibrinolytic system plays an important role in coronary artery atherothrombosis, and especially circulating plasminogen-activator inhibitor (PAI) type 1 (PAI-1) associates with increased mortality, infarct size and heart failure in ...

Active chiral molecules in activity gradients [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
While the behavior of active colloidal molecules is well studied by now for a constant activity, the effect of activity gradients is much less understood. Here we explore one of the simplest molecules in activity gradients, namely active chiral dimers composed of two particles with opposite active torques of the same magnitude.

Systemic effects of tissue plasminogen activator-associated fibrinolysis and its relation to thrombin generation in orthotopic liver transplantation [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
Orthotopic liver transplantation is frequently associated with hyperfibrinolysis, the origin and clinical relevance of which is largely unknown. In 20 orthotopic liver transplantations, we studied the occurrence and systemic effects of hyperfibrinolysis.
