Effects of occupational stress on the distribution of circulating T lymphocyte subsets and psychological health of young anaesthesiologists

open access: yesBMC Psychology
Background High-intensity work environments and high psychological stress place anaesthesiologists in a state of chronic stress. T lymphocyte subsets are an essential component of the peripheral immune cells and are important in the pathophysiology of ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Modelling Heat Transfer of Carbon Nanotubes

open access: yes, 2010
Modelling heat transfer of carbon nanotubes is important for the thermal management of nanotube-based composites and nanoelectronic device. By using a finite element method for three-dimensional anisotropic heat transfer, we have simulated the heat ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Autonomy and Singularity in Dynamic Fracture

open access: yes, 2010
The recently developed weakly nonlinear theory of dynamic fracture predicts $1/r$ corrections to the standard asymptotic linear elastic $1/\sqrt{r}$ displacement-gradients, where $r$ is measured from the tip of a tensile crack.

Neuroticism, extraversion, stressful life events and asthma: a cohort study of middle-aged adults [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Background: Stressful life events can trigger asthma exacerbations, but could also contribute to the development of incident asthma. However, only few studies have investigated the association between stressful life events and adult asthma prospectively.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Stress Effects on Stop Bursts in Five Languages

open access: yesLaboratory Phonology, 2016
This study examines the effects of stress on the stop burst in five languages differing in number of places of articulation, as reflected in burst duration, spectral centre of gravity, and spectral standard deviation.

Improving Irrigation Scheduling and Water use Efficiency in Cotton [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
Cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L) is an important crop in the southern United States. The crop is grown in both irrigated and rainfed situations and is seldom free from periods of water shortages at some stage during the season.
