Mode I cracks subjected to large T-stresses
International Journal of Fracture, 2002There are several criteria for predicting brittle fracture in mode I and mixed mode loading. In this paper, the modified maximum tangential stress criterion originally proposed for mixed mode loading, is employed to study theoretically brittle fracture for mode I cracks. In particular, the effect of the non-singular term of stress, often known as the T-

Determination of T-stress using finite element analysis
Science China Technological Sciences, 2017A method that uses finite element analysis to determine the non-singular stress (T-stress) at a crack tip is proposed in this study. T-stress includes two components: the Tx-stress parallel to the tangent of the crack at its tip and the Ty-stress perpendicular to this tangent.

Evaluation of the T-stress for interacting cracks
Computational Materials Science, 2009This paper investigates the T-stress for interacting cracks in general case. The cracks are located in an arbitrary position with the remote tension. If one uses the traction along crack face as unknown function, the problem for interacting cracks can be reduced to a Fredholm integral equation.

Multiaxial crack growth rate under variable T-stress
Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 2014Abstract Fatigue crack growth rate are studied through experiments and numerical computations under different biaxial and mixed-mode loading conditions. Cruciform specimens under biaxial loading and compact tension–shear specimens are considered. The different degrees of mode mixity from pure mode I to pure mode II are given by the combinations of ...

On the consequences of T-stress in elastic brittle fracture
Proceedings of the Royal Society A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2006By using a generalized maximum tensile stress (MTS) criterion to predict onset of brittle fracture, it is shown that the presence of T-stress can have a significant effect on mode I and mode II toughness. The most prominent influence of T-stress on toughness occurs for mode II conditions.

T-Stresses for Edge Cracks and Vanishing Ligaments
Journal of Applied Mechanics, 2013An edge-cracked half-plane 0 < x < A and a half-plane x > 0 with a semi-infinite crack x > a perpendicular to the edge are examined in this paper. Uniform crack-face loading is thoroughly examined, with a thorough exposition of the Koiter Wiener–Hopf approach (Koiter, 1956, “On the Flexural Rigidity of a Beam Weakened by Transverse Saw Cuts,

T-stresses in rectangular plates and circular disks
Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 1998The aim of the present note is to compile T-stress results for a number of rectangular components and circular disks under different loadings. In addition, Green’s function representations are proposed, which enable the determination of T for arbitrarily given stress states (residual stresses, thermal stresses) in the uncracked body and a method is ...
