Human naive CD8 T cells down-regulate expression of the WNT pathway transcription factors lymphoid enhancer binding factor 1 and transcription factor 7 (T cell factor-1) following antigen encounter in vitro and in vivo [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The transcription factors lymphoid enhancer binding factor 1 (LEF1) and transcription factor 7 (TCF7) (T cell factor-1 (TCF-1)) are downstream effectors of the WNT signaling pathway, which is a critical regulator of T cell development in the thymus.

Functional variation among LPMOs revealed by the inhibitory effects of cyanide and buffer ions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study addresses the inhibition of lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases (LPMOs) by cyanide and explains how and why the magnitude of observed inhibitory effects depends on the way LPMO reactions are setup and on the type of LPMO. Enzymes known as lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases (LPMOs) are mono‐copper polysaccharide‐degrading peroxygenases that ...

Cell-by-cell deciphering of T cells in allergic inflammation [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, 2019
Technical advances in single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) render it possible to examine the transcriptomes of single cells in patients with allergic inflammation with high resolution in the context of their specific microenvironment, treatment, and disease status.

T Cell Factor 1 Suppresses CD103+ Lung Tissue-Resident Memory T Cell Development

open access: yesCell Reports, 2020
Summary: T cell factor 1 (Tcf1) promotes the central memory CD8+ T (TCM) cell differentiation and stemness in lymphoid tissues after systemic infections.

Confirmation that T cell receptor activation is digital, not analog. Hence individual T cell cytolytic capacity is independent of initial stimulation strength [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Whether a sub-optimum lymphocyte stimulus is achieved by lowering ligand concentration, or decreasing its affinity, initial TCR activation responses are likely to be digital. We now know for cultured peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs), when activated by plant lectins such as concanavalin-A (Con-A), that the responding cells are T cells, and ...

Deterministic mechanical model of T-killer cell polarization reproduces the wandering of aim between simultaneously engaged targets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
T-killer cells of the immune system eliminate virus-infected and tumorous cells through direct cell-cell interactions. Reorientation of the killing apparatus inside the T cell to the T-cell interface with the target cell ensures specificity of the immune

Ablation of LRP6 in alpha‐smooth muscle actin‐expressing cells abrogates lung inflammation and fibrosis upon bleomycin‐induced lung injury

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Low‐density lipoprotein receptor‐related protein 6 (LRP6) is a key receptor for the Wnt antagonist Dickkopf1 (DKK1). DKK1 protein expression is induced in a bleomycin (BLM)‐induced lung injury model. We show that DKK1 induces proinflammatory and profibrotic genes in lung fibroblasts.

Cell–cell and cell–matrix interactions

open access: yesMolecular Biology of the Cell, 2013
In this year's annual ASCB Meeting Minisymposium on Cell–Cell and Cell–Matrix Interactions, new data were presented on several aspects of the biology of cell adhesions. The role of cell adhesions in cancer was the topic of three of the talks, two of which were focused on identifying how invasion is affected by cell–matrix and cell–cell adhesions ...

The cell secretome, a mediator of cell-to-cell communication [PDF]

open access: yesProstaglandins & Other Lipid Mediators, 2015
We are witnessing the emergence of a novel type of biological regulation, namely, the communication between cells via their secreted substances, the secretome. This brief overview is based on the available published data and our own experience. We discuss three vignettes illustrating the importance of communication via the secretome: (1) the secretome ...
