Masculinity Aloft and on the Ground: The Myth of Warrior Nation in Turkey's Cold War Cinema

open access: yesSociology Lens, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This article explores the construction of militarized masculinity and nationalist myths in Turkish Cold War cinema of the 1960s through a comparative analysis of two films: On Korkusuz Adam (Ten Fearless Men, 1964) and Göklerdeki Sevgili (The Lover in the Skies, 1966). Produced and circulated in a period of political realignments as a response

High-resolution [O i] Line Spectral Mapping of TW Hya Consistent with X-Ray-driven Photoevaporation

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters, 2023
Theoretical models indicate that photoevaporative and magnetothermal winds play a crucial role in the evolution and dispersal of protoplanetary disks and affect the formation of planetary systems.

Faint disks around classical T Tauri stars: small but dense enough to form planets ⋆ [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
(abridged) Most Class II sources (of nearby star forming regions) are surrounded by disks with weak millimeter continuum emission. These "faint" disks may hold clues to the disk dissipation mechanism.

Nonradial and nonpolytropic astrophysical outflows IX. Modeling T Tauri jets with a low mass-accretion rate

open access: yes, 2011
Context: A large sample of T Tauri stars exhibits optical jets, approximately half of which rotate slowly, only at ten per cent of their breakup velocity.

‘It's the party that counts’? The Rise of Labour and the Image of the Woman Politician at English Elections, c.1929–1950

open access: yesGender &History, Volume 37, Issue 2, Page 684-699, July 2025.
Abstract This article uses election addresses to consider how the early women parliamentary candidates sought to make their case to English voters. It then explores the insights that Mass Observation's election surveys offer into public attitudes to women politicians, and gender and political leadership more broadly, from the late 1930s to the early ...

Starspots as an Explanation for the Mysterious IYJ Continuum Excess Emission in Classical T Tauri Stars

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
An accurate estimation of the continuum excess emission from accretion spots and inner circumstellar disk regions is crucial for a proper derivation of fundamental stellar parameters in accreting systems.

Oscillations of the Boundary Layer and High-frequency QPOs

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2014
We observed persistent high-frequency oscillations of the boundary layer near an accreting, weakly-magnetized star in global 3D MHD simulations. The tilted dipole magnetic field is not strong enough to open a gap between the star and the disk.

Chandra Observations of Six Peter Pan Disks: Diversity of X-Ray-driven Internal Photoevaporation Rates Does Not Explain Their Rare Longevity

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2022
We present Chandra X-ray observations of six previously identified Peter Pan objects, rare ∼40 Myr systems with evidence of primordial disk retention. We observe X-ray luminosities (0.8–3.0 keV) ranging from log L _x ∼ 27.7–29.1.

Which jet launching mechanism(s) in T Tauri stars [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Aims. We examine whether ejection phenomena from accreting T Tauri stars can be described by only one type of self-collimated jet model. Methods. We present analytical kinematic predictions valid soon after the Alfven surface for all types of steady ...

Eleanor Coade and Horace Walpole's Gothic Gateway: A Study in Eighteenth‐Century Business Practice

open access: yesJournal for Eighteenth-Century Studies, Volume 48, Issue 2, Page 149-176, June 2025.
Abstract Artificial stone manufacturer Eleanor Coade (1733–1821) was the outstanding female entrepreneur of the eighteenth century, running her own successful business for some fifty years. Her name became a nationally recognized brand, and her firm's architectural and sculptural stoneware products are still ubiquitous.
