Masculinity Aloft and on the Ground: The Myth of Warrior Nation in Turkey's Cold War Cinema

open access: yesSociology Lens, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This article explores the construction of militarized masculinity and nationalist myths in Turkish Cold War cinema of the 1960s through a comparative analysis of two films: On Korkusuz Adam (Ten Fearless Men, 1964) and Göklerdeki Sevgili (The Lover in the Skies, 1966). Produced and circulated in a period of political realignments as a response

ABYSS. III. Observing Accretion Activity in Young Stars Through Empirical Veiling Measurements

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
Stellar accretion plays an important role in the early stages of stellar evolution, particularly in Classical T Tauri Stars (CTTSs). Accretion of a CTTS can be related to different physical parameters such as effective temperature ( T _eff ), age ...

Oscillations of the Boundary Layer and High-frequency QPOs

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2014
We observed persistent high-frequency oscillations of the boundary layer near an accreting, weakly-magnetized star in global 3D MHD simulations. The tilted dipole magnetic field is not strong enough to open a gap between the star and the disk.

Chandra Observations of Six Peter Pan Disks: Diversity of X-Ray-driven Internal Photoevaporation Rates Does Not Explain Their Rare Longevity

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2022
We present Chandra X-ray observations of six previously identified Peter Pan objects, rare ∼40 Myr systems with evidence of primordial disk retention. We observe X-ray luminosities (0.8–3.0 keV) ranging from log L _x ∼ 27.7–29.1.

T Tauri variability in the context of the beat-frequency model [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
We examine the implications of a beat frequency modulated model of T Tauri accretion. In particular we show that measurements of the variability of accretion generated lines can be used in conjunction with existing photometry to obtain a measurement of ...

The Development and Political Effects Of a Pan‐Arab Corporate Elite

open access: yesMiddle East Policy, EarlyView.
Abstract Gulf investment across the Arab states has skyrocketed since the 2000s. Such activity not only links corporate entities but also weaves new connections between business leaders. We take a birds‐eye view of the pan‐Arab corporate elite by analyzing the network of transnational interlocking directorships.

High-resolution [O i] Line Spectral Mapping of TW Hya Consistent with X-Ray-driven Photoevaporation

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters, 2023
Theoretical models indicate that photoevaporative and magnetothermal winds play a crucial role in the evolution and dispersal of protoplanetary disks and affect the formation of planetary systems.

XMM-Newton observations of the sigma Ori cluster. II. Spatial and spectral analysis of the full EPIC field

open access: yes, 2005
We present the results of an XMM-Newton observation of the young (~2-4 Myr) cluster around the hot star sigma Orionis. In a previous paper we presented the analysis of the RGS spectrum of the central hot star; here we discuss the results of the analysis ...

CO Rovibrational Emission as a Probe of Inner Disk Structure [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We present an analysis of CO emission lines from a sample of T Tauri, Herbig Ae/Be, and transitional disks with known inclinations in order to study the structure of inner disk molecular gas.
