Human iPSC‐Derived Mononuclear Phagocytes Improve Cognition and Neural Health across Multiple Mouse Models of Aging and Alzheimer's Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Short‐term intravenous treatments with iPSC‐derived mononuclear phagocytes (iMPs) improve cognitive decline and neural health in two mouse models of aging and in the 5xFAD mouse model of Alzheimer's disease. iMPs reduce levels of serum amyloid proteins that increase in aging and improve the health of hippocampal microglia and mossy cells.

Minimally Invasive Chemical Biopsy Needle with Self‐Wettable Extraction Phase For In Vivo Tissue Sampling During Medical Procedures

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A new tissue sampling device using an acupuncture needle with bio‐compatible extraction sorbents in the recessed section is developed. The coating material using self‐wettable particles doesn't require solvent activation after sterilization. This device is applied for the anti‐cancer drug concentration monitoring during the in vivo lung perfusion ...

Progastrin Promotes Colorectal Cancer Stem Cell‐Like Properties via the Receptor PZR

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The tumor microenvironment supports colorectal cancer (CRC) progression by maintaining cancer stem cells (CSCs) through progastrin (PG). This study identifies Protein Zero‐Related protein (PZR) as an essential receptor for PG activity, promoting CSC‐like signaling via SHP2/SRC/β‐catenin.

Stiffness‐Tunable Neurotentacles for Minimally Invasive Implantation and Long‐Term Neural Activity Recordings

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A hydraulically actuated “Neurotentacle” probe offers tunable stiffness for precise implantation into the deep brain without rigid shuttles or dissolvable coatings. It stiffens during insertion to penetrate tissue and softens afterward to minimize damage and enable stable long‐term recordings.

Translation of a Human‐Based Malaria‐on‐a‐Chip Phenotypic Disease Model for In Vivo Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Inoculation of the Malaria‐on‐a‐Chip model with human erythrocytes infected with Plasmodium falciparum can support the entire intraerythrocytic lifecycle for 7 days in vitro. Utilizing this human‐based, serum‐free model provides an alternative to animal testing by introducing a human‐based, preclinical alternative for antimalarial therapeutic delivery.

Engineering Decavalent, Sperm‐Binding Laminin‐IgG Hybrid Antibodies for Potent Non‐Hormonal Contraception

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study investigates a highly multivalent mAb platform fusing Laminin‐511 heterotrimerization domains with Fabs and IgG1‐Fc as a non‐hormonal contraceptive. The most potent molecule ‘LamH10’, possessing 10 Fabs, rapidly achieved >99% reduction in progressively motile sperm at just 33µg per dose in sheep, making the laminin‐IgG hybrid platform the ...

Study on the efficacy of compound porcine cerebroside and ganglioside injection in patients with ischemic stroke: A randomized, single‐center, open‐label, prospective study

open access: yesIbrain, EarlyView., 2023
Compound porcine perebroside and ganglioside injection (CPCGI) was used to treat ischemic stroke. However, there was no clinical evidence of low‐dose CPCGI. We conducted a clinical study to analyze whether the clinical results of low‐dose and standard‐dose CPCGI in patients with ischemic stroke were different.

Deterministic Fabrication of Plasmonic Nanostructures on Optical Nanofibers via Blurred Electron Beam Deposition

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A nanofabrication method enabling the direct growth of plasmonic nanostructures are presented on suspended tapered optical nanofibers via Blurred Electron Beam Induced Deposition (BEBID). By defocusing the beam to reduce mechanical stress, BEBID achieves sub‐20 nm precision and structural control, enabling directional scattering and light–matter ...

Vinyl Acetate‐Enhanced Polyvinyl Chloride Gel with High Electroadhesion and Self‐Heating‐Tunability for Soft Robots in Freezing Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study presents a vinyl acetate‐enhanced electroactive polyvinyl chloride gel with low‐voltage deformation, strong electro‐adhesion, and controlled heating. Leveraging these synergistic properties, this work develops soft robots capable of fast locomotion, swarm reconfiguration, and low‐temperature operation (‐50°C).
