Phenotypic Analysis of Growth and Morphological Traits in Miniature Breeds of Japanese Indigenous Chickens

open access: yesThe Journal of Poultry Science, 2022
Japanese indigenous chickens include approximately 50 breeds exhibiting various morphological traits, such as a long tail. These genetic resources will be important for revealing the genetic basis of morphological traits in the future.

CCDC42 Localizes to Manchette, HTCA and Tail and Interacts With ODF1 and ODF2 in the Formation of the Male Germ Cell Cytoskeleton

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, 2019
Terminal differentiation of male germ cells into functional spermatozoa requires shaping and condensation of the nucleus as well as the formation of sperm-specific structures. A transient microtubular structure, the manchette, is mandatory for sperm head

Delay in a 2-State Discrete-Time Queue with Stochastic State-Period Lengths and State-Dependent Server Availability and Arrivals

open access: yesMathematics, 2021
In this paper, we consider a discrete-time multiserver queueing system with correlation in the arrival process and in the server availability. Specifically, we are interested in the delay characteristics.

Option-implied information and predictability of extreme returns : [Version 28 Januar 2013] [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We study whether prices of traded options contain information about future extreme market events. Our option-implied conditional expectation of market loss due to tail events, or tail loss measure, predicts future market returns, magnitude, and ...

On Tails of Perpetuities [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Probability, 2010
We establish an upper bound on the tails of a random variable that arises as a solution of a stochastic difference equation. In the nonnegative case our bound is similar to a lower bound obtained in Goldie and Grübel (1996).

Measuring Sheep Tails: A Preliminary Study Using Length (Mm), Vulva Cover Assessment, and Number of Tail Joints

open access: yesAnimals, 2023
Docking sheep tails is a long-standing practice that, when done at the recommended length, reduces the risk of flystrike. The recommended length is to cover the vulva of ewes and to a similar length in males.

The probability density function tail of the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang equation in the strongly non-linear regime [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
An analytical derivation of the probability density function (PDF) tail describing the strongly correlated interface growth governed by the nonlinear Kardar-Parisi-Zhang equation is provided. The PDF tail exactly coincides with a Tracy-Widom distribution

A twist in the tail

open access: yeseLife, 2014
Lipopolysaccharide molecules released by the bacteria Vibrio fischeri when it rotates its flagella prompts its host, the Hawaiian bobtail squid, to prepare for its arrival.

Mind the Tails [PDF]

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2012
Extremes have been gaining importance over time. This dissertation studies the impact of country’s tail dependence directly in asset allocation. We propose a new measure of country’s extreme dependence aggregating sector information. We use this new variable as a new characteristic in the asset allocation following Brandt and Santa-Clara (2006).
