First morphological and molecular isolation of Talaromyces marneffei in beech marten (Martes foina) in Portugal [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
Talaromyces marneffei is a zoonotic fungus that mostly infects immunocompromised individuals. For the first time, this fungus was isolated in an adult beech marten (Martes foina) hit by a car, found dead in Penamacor, Portugal.

Advanced HIV disease: A review of diagnostic and prophylactic strategies

open access: yesHIV Medicine, Volume 24, Issue 8, Page 859-876, August 2023., 2023
Abstract Background Despite expanded access to antiretroviral therapy (ART) and the rollout of the World Health Organization's (WHO) ‘test‐and‐treat’ strategy, the proportion of people with HIV (PWH) presenting with advanced HIV disease (AHD) remains unchanged at approximately 30%. Fifty percent of persons with AHD report prior engagement to care.

Characterization of Clinical Isolates of Talaromyces marneffei and Related Species, California, USA

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2019
Talaromyces marneffei and other Talaromyces species can cause opportunistic invasive fungal infections. We characterized clinical Talaromyces isolates from patients in California, USA, a non–Talaromyces-endemic area, by a multiphasic approach, including ...

Talaromyces marneffei infection relapse presenting as osteolytic destruction followed by suspected nontuberculous mycobacterium infection during 6 years of follow-up: A case update

open access: yesInternational Journal of Infectious Diseases, 2020
Talaromyces (formerly Penicillium) marneffei, a dimorphic fungus, is the most common opportunistic pathogen in human immunodeficiency viruses (HIV)-positive patients, but it rarely appears in HIV-negative individuals. Previously, in 2014, we reported the

Expression of Heat Shock Protein 30 in Talaromyces marneffei during Phase Transition and in Response to Heat and Oxidative Stresses

open access: yesBiomedical Sciences and Clinical Medicine, 2023
OBJECTIVE Heat shock protein 30 (Hsp30) has been identified as an immunogenic, yeast phase-specific protein in Talaromyces marneffei. The purpose of this study was to investigate how the hsp30 gene and Hsp30 protein are expressed during phase ...
