Pattern generation in Talbot planes has generally been interpreted in terms of image formation, the repetitive slits are said to make repetitive images of themselves. In this context, Fourier optics developments have correctly predicted the positions of some but not all of the Talbot planes.

Adaptive photodetector for assisted Talbot effect [PDF]
We use an adaptive photodetector for measuring the visibility of the Fresnel diffraction patterns generated by a grating. Visibility is measured in real time, with high spatial resolution, and without any signal processing. This method is well suited for analyzing the Talbot effect and its many applications.

Polarization-independent Talbot effect
We report the first observation of polarization-independent Talbot effect with a high-density grating for TE and TM polarizations, which is attributed to the identical phases and diffraction efficiencies of the diffraction orders for both polarizations.

We propose and experimentally demonstrate the nonlinear Talbot effect from nonlinear photonic crystals. The nonlinear Talbot effect results from self-imaging of the generated periodic intensity pattern at the output surface of the crystal. To illustrate the effect, we experimentally observed second-harmonic Talbot self-imaging from 1D and 2D ...

Modulation Fading in Temporal Talbot Effect [PDF]
Temporal Talbot phenomenon is the time-domain counterpart of the well-known spatial Talbot phenomenon, which can be used to compress/expand input pulses or multiply the pulse repetition rate. It is of great interest to study the temporal Talbot effect with modulation due to its potential applications in information transmission, in which the envelope ...

Observation of the Discrete Talbot Effect
Nonlinear Guided Waves and Their Applications, 2005We report the first observation of the discrete Talbot effect in one-dimensional waveguide arrays. Recurrence for different input patterns was observed in very good agreement with simulations. No recursion occurs for the zero diffraction direction.

Demonstration of the space-time Talbot effect
Laser Technology for Defense and Security XVI, 2021We demonstrate self-imaging in space and time of a discretized spatio-temporal optical field lattice in which the diffraction and dispersion lengths, and thus the spatial and temporal Talbot lengths, are intrinsically equal.
