Polarization-dependent Talbot effect
Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 2006The term "polarization-dependent Talbot effect" means that the Talbot self-imaging intensity of a high-density grating is different for TE and TM polarization modes. Numerical simulations with the finite-difference time-domain method show that the polarization dependence of the Talbot images is obvious for gratings with period d between 2 lambda and 3 ...

Talbot effect in arrays of helical waveguides
Optics Letters, 2021We demonstrate that periodic self-imaging of light patterns with certain input periods can be effectively realized in one-dimensional and two-dimensional helical waveguide arrays. The band structure is drastically dependent on the helix radius and period, and the complete collapse of quasi-energy bands occurs for a certain helix radius and period ...

It is shown, that the structure of the arising self-images is connected both with the presence of local cross nonuniformities of a field within the limits of one space period of structure, and with nonlocalized influence on field of all aperture of an object or optical system.

The Talbot effect in a metamaterial
Applied Physics A, 2018The effect of anisotropy and spatial dispersion of a metamaterial on the Talbot effect may be engineered in principle. This has profound implications for applications of the Talbot effect such as the design of a multimode interference coupler (MMI). The paper describes how a metamaterial can suppress the modal phase error which otherwise limits the ...

Talbot effect and Cornu’s spiral
Applied Optics, 1994Cornu's spiral is used in the testing and extension of a recent explanation of the Talbot effect, which occurs in the Fresnel domain. The results confirm all parts tested. They also indicate that each band of a Talbot plane is controlled primarily by light from only a few slits of the grating, contrary to earlier assumptions.

Talbot effect of quasi-periodic grating
Applied Optics, 2013Theoretic and experimental studies of the Talbot effect of quasi-periodic gratings are performed in this paper. The diffractions of periodic and quasi-periodic square aperture arrays in Fresnel fields are analyzed according to the scalar diffraction theory.

Fractional second-harmonic Talbot effect
Optics Letters, 2012We demonstrate the fractional second-harmonic (SH) Talbot effect in a hexagonally poled LiTaO3 crystal. We carefully record the SH Talbot images at 1/2, 1/3, and 1/4 Talbot lengths, which are well matched with the simulated images by using the modified Rayleigh-Sommerfeld diffraction formula.

Talbot effect reinterpreted: comment
Applied Optics, 1993In this Technical Note are comments on some misconceptions and omissions present in a recent attempt at reinterpretation of the Talbot effect by P. Latimer and R. F. Crouse [Appl. Opt. 31, 80-89 (1992)].

Talbot effect interpreted by number theory
Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 2001An interpretation of the Talbot effect in a tapered gradient-index medium by number theory as the output/input relationship between the integer and the noninteger difference of position and the slope of rays is presented. Unit cell and transverse magnification for Talbot images are evaluated, and two criteria for angular magnification are defined.

Discrete Talbot Effect in Waveguide Arrays
Physical Review Letters, 2005We report the first observation of discrete Talbot revivals in one-dimensional waveguide arrays. Unlike continuous systems where the Talbot self-imaging effect always occurs irrespective of the pattern period, in discrete configurations this process is only possible for a specific set of periodicities. Recurrence of different input periodic patterns is
