Amazonian drought of 2023: Environmental conditions relevant to fishes

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract This paper provides a platform for the following studies within this Special Issue. ‘Ecophysiology of fishes in the two great tributaries of the Amazon in the Anthropocene’. It documents the water quality conditions and accompanying zooplankton community structure and biomass relative to fish health in the Rio Negro and Rio Solimões during the

The effect of fairy shrimp “branchoneta” (Dendrocephalus brasiliensis) as the initial diet of tambaqui postlarvae

open access: yesActa Scientiarum: Animal Sciences, 2021
The effect of fairy shrimp “branchoneta” as the first exogenous feed for tambaqui postlarvae was evaluated. A hundred and eighty larvae were distributed in 12 aquariums, containing 1.5L of water and the stocking density was 10 larvae per liter.

Fish Viscera Silage: Production, Characterization, and Digestibility of Nutrients and Energy for Tambaqui Juveniles

open access: yesFishes, 2023
Fish viscera can be an important source of protein and energy for aquafeed, and its use contributes to circular aquaculture. The aim of this study was to produce acid and fermented silage from fish viscera to determine their nutritional value and the ...

Oocyte quality of tambaqui (Colossoma macropomum) during the reproductive season [PDF]

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Biology, 2015
The study aimed to analyze the Colossoma macropomum reproductive behavior and quality of the female gametes throughout the reproductive season. The experiment was carried out in Pimenta Bueno - Rondônia State (Northern Brazil) during the reproductive season (2010-2011) using 36 females. Each sampling was performed on a 15 ± 5 days interval.

Bath Treatments With Emamectin Benzoate Control Dactylogyrideans Infecting Colossoma macropomum Gills Without Altering Physiology of This Host Fish

open access: yesJournal of Fish Diseases, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Intensification of fish aquaculture worldwide has led to severe problems of diseases caused by parasitic dactylogyrideans. In this study, the anti‐dactylogyridean efficacy of treating Colossoma macropomum with baths of emamectin benzoate (EMB) was investigated for the first time, along with the effects of this treatment on the haematology and ...

Flavobacterium oreochromis From Farmed Tambaqui (Colossoma macropomum): Insights Into Genetic, Phenotypic and Pathogenic Diversity

open access: yesJournal of Fish Diseases, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Flavobacterium spp. are the etiological agents of columnaris disease. Although there is evidence that columnaris poses a significant threat to the farming of tambaqui (Colossoma macropomum), there remains a large gap in understanding the genetic and phenotypic diversities of columnaris‐causing bacteria (CCB).

Fine‐Scale Genomic Divergence in the Amazonian Pirarucu (Arapaima gigas) Highlights the Need for Local Management Strategies

open access: yesFreshwater Biology, Volume 71, Issue 3, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Freshwater habitats face significant human disturbances globally, impacting food security and ecosystems. Protected areas can mitigate biodiversity loss, but limited data on population connectivity hinders conservation management. This study examines pirarucu (Arapaima gigas), a heavily exploited and threatened Amazonian fish, using genomic ...
