Scalable Image Self-Embedding Based on Dual-Rate SPIHT-LDPC Reference Generation Scheme [PDF]

open access: yesRadioengineering, 2019
Image Self-Embedding is a method of embedding two sets of data into the original image, authentication data for tamper detection and reference data for image recovery.

Wild meat consumption in changing rural landscapes of Indonesian Borneo

open access: yesPeople and Nature, EarlyView.
Abstract Wild meat can play a crucial role in the food system of rural communities residing near tropical forests. Yet, socio‐ecological changes across tropical landscapes are impacting the patterns and sustainability of meat consumption. To understand the prevalence, frequency and drivers of wild meat, domestic meat and fish consumption in this ...

In Utero HSC Transplantation for Sickle Cell Disease: A Potential Therapeutic Approach That Overcomes Complications of Current Therapies

open access: yesPrenatal Diagnosis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Sickle cell disease (SCD) affects millions worldwide but has limited treatment options, most of which carry significant side effects. At present, the only curative treatment for SCD is allogeneic or gene‐modified autologous hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) transplantation (Tx).

Open‐land‐derived agroforestry and effects of abandonment of management of the main crop on ecosystem services and woody plant diversity

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Tropical forests are rapidly declining. One promising strategy to reverse the loss of tropical forest is the establishment of agroforestry on open land. We combined interviews with biodiversity surveys to learn general lessons from success and nonsuccess stories of the establishment of open‐land‐derived coffee agroforests in one of the world's ...

An Adaptive Curvelet Based Semi-Fragile Watermarking Scheme for Effective and Intelligent Tampering Classification and Recovery of Digital Images

open access: yes, 2018
A novel adaptive semi-fragile watermarking scheme for tamper detection and recovery of digital images is proposed in this paper. This scheme involves embedding of content and chroma watermarks generated from the first level Discrete Curvelet Transform ...

An autonomous network of acoustic detectors to map tiger risk by eavesdropping on prey alarm calls

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
Tiger population recovery brings with it increased fatalities from human‐tiger conflict. We describe a network of autonomous intelligent passive acoustic sensors that monitor the forest for deer alarm calls as a proxy for tiger risk and provide a risk map to local communities in real‐time.

Rhyming in the cold: first evidence of soniferous fishes in the Southern Ocean

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
The acoustic ecology of Southern Ocean fishes remains unknown due to a lack of dedicated acoustic research on the fishes of this ocean. Passive acoustic monitoring data were collected at the South African sub‐Antarctic Prince Edward Islands using an underwater acoustic recorder, and towed underwater Ski‐Monkey cameras were deployed to identify fish ...

A Novel Self-Embedded Dual Watermarking Method for Image Tamper Detection and Recovery

open access: yes
Digital images have been used frequently in our daily lives. Manipulations on images can easily be made through various image-editing software. Detecting and recovering these manipulations are an important issue. In this paper, a novel self-embedded dual

Illegal Gold Mining in the Brazilian Amazon: Environmental Degradation in Yanomami Indigenous Lands, and Regulatory Failures

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Illegal gold mining has emerged as a major sustainability threat in the Amazon, eroding Indigenous rights, forest integrity, and climate mitigation efforts. This study examines how international market incentives relate to the expansion of illegal mining and associated deforestation within the Yanomami Indigenous Territory (YIT) from 2008 to ...
